Journal ArticleDOI

Sequence-dependent motions of DNA: A normal mode analysis at the base-pair level

TL;DR: The normal mode analysis of DNA in terms of six base-pair "step" parameters per chain residue addresses the dynamic structure of the double helix at intermediate resolution and shows how known discrepancies in the measured twisting constants of long DNA molecules could originate in the deformability of neighboring base- Pair steps.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of electrostatic screening on the conformation of single DNA molecules confined in a nanochannel

TL;DR: In this paper, single T4-DNA molecules were confined in rectangular-shaped channels with a depth of 300nm and a width in the range of 150-300nm casted in a poly(dimethylsiloxane) nanofluidic chip.
Journal ArticleDOI

Actin Mechanics and Fragmentation.

TL;DR: Recent advances in understanding the mechanical properties and stability of actin filaments and how these properties are manifested at larger (network) length scales are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ligand-specific interactions modulate kinetic, energetic and mechanical properties of the human β2 adrenergic receptor

TL;DR: Dynamic single-molecule force spectroscopy is used to investigate how ligand binding modulates the energy landscape of the human β2 adrenergic receptor (β2 AR) and suggests that the functional modulation of GPCRs follows structurally well-defined interaction patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI

DNA Overstretching in the Presence of Glyoxal: Structural Evidence of Force-Induced DNA Melting

TL;DR: To demonstrate that DNA overstretching is accompanied by a disruption of the DNA helical structure, including a loss of hydrogen bonding, the extent to which DNA base pairs are exposed to solution during the transition is held to different lengths within the transition in the presence of glyoxal.

Direct mechanical measurements of the elasticity of single DNA molecules by using magnetic beads

TL;DR: Deviations from the force curves predicted by the freely jointed chain model suggest that DNA has significant local curvature in solution, and the effect of bend-inducing cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II) was large and supports the hypothesis of natural curvatures in DNA.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of the method of phage T4 DNA ligase-catalyzed ring-closure to the study of DNA structure. II. NaCl-dependence of DNA flexibility and helical repeat.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that it is possible to determine the molar cyclization factor jM from single ligation reactions in which both circular and linear dimer DNA species are formed concurrently from linear monomers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polymer conformational statistics. III. Modified Gaussian models of stiff chains

M. Fixman, +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a modified Gaussian probability for intrachain distances was used to account for polymer chain stiffness or excluded volume effects in non-Newtonian viscosity theory.
