TLDR
In this article, potential pathways linking greenspace to health are presented in three domains, which emphasize three general functions of greenspace: reducing harm (e.g., reducing exposure to air pollution, noise and heat), restoring capacities (i.e., attention restoration and physiological stress recovery), and encouraging physical activity and facilitating social cohesion). Interrelations between among the three domains are also noted.

Urban Green Space and Its Impact on Human Health

TL;DR: A systematic review of published literature found consistent negative association between urban green space exposure and mortality, heart rate, and violence, and positive association with attention, mood, and physical activity in urban settings.

A Review of Epidemiologic Studies on Greenness and Health: Updated Literature Through 2017.

TL;DR: Future research should incorporate information on specific species and some qualities of natural greenness that might drive health outcomes, integrate exposure assessments that incorporate personal mobility into analyses, and include prospective designs to add to the growing evidence that nature exposure positively affects health.

Residential green space in childhood is associated with lower risk of psychiatric disorders from adolescence into adulthood

TL;DR: It is shown that high levels of green space presence during childhood are associated with lower risk of a wide spectrum of psychiatric disorders later in life, supporting efforts to better integrate natural environments into urban planning and childhood life.

The moderator–mediator variable distinction in social psychological research: Conceptual, strategic, and statistical considerations.

TL;DR: This article seeks to make theorists and researchers aware of the importance of not using the terms moderator and mediator interchangeably by carefully elaborating the many ways in which moderators and mediators differ, and delineates the conceptual and strategic implications of making use of such distinctions with regard to a wide range of phenomena.
