A Potential New Treatment for High-Grade Glioma: A Study Assessing Repurposed Drug Combinations against Patient-Derived High-Grade Glioma Cells

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the local delivery of drug combinations has the potential to be more effective than temozolomide, while slowing down or eradicating tumour recurrence, as a novel treatment strategy for high-grade gliomas.
Journal ArticleDOI

In Silico Analysis of miRNA-mediated ceRNAs as Potential Molecular Biomarkers in Glioblastoma

Orcun Avsar
TL;DR: It is determined that NRXN3 acts as a tumor suppressor gene and NRxN3 gene is downregulated in glioblastoma, and PBX3 gene functions as an oncogene and is upregulated in GBM.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of ubiquitin-specific protease 32 as an oncogene in glioblastoma and the underlying mechanisms

TL;DR: In this paper , the role of USP32 in GBM progression and potential target for GBM treatment was evaluated using Gene Expression Omnibus databases and RT-qPCR was used to validate divergent expression of genes involved in the enriched pathways.

A Tumor-Homing Peptide Platform Enhances Drug Solubility, Improves Blood–Brain Barrier Permeability and Targets Glioblastoma

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that conjugation of BTP-7 to CPT improves drug solubility in aqueous solution, retains drug efficacy against patient-derived GBM stem cells (GSC), enhances BBB permeability, and enables therapeutic targeting to intracranial GBM, leading to higher toxicity in GBM cells compared to normal brain tissues, and ultimately prolongs survival in mice bearing intrac Cranial patient- derived GBM xenograft.

The 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System: a summary.

TL;DR: The 2016 World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System is both a conceptual and practical advance over its 2007 predecessor and is hoped that it will facilitate clinical, experimental and epidemiological studies that will lead to improvements in the lives of patients with brain tumors.
Journal ArticleDOI

CBTRUS statistical report: primary brain and central nervous system tumors diagnosed in the United States in 2007-2011.

TL;DR: The Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States (CBTRUS), in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Cancer Institute, is the largest population-based registry focused exclusively on primary brain and other central nervous system (CNS) tumors in the US.

Comprehensive genomic characterization defines human glioblastoma genes and core pathways

Roger E. McLendon, +233 more

TL;DR: The interim integrative analysis of DNA copy number, gene expression and DNA methylation aberrations in 206 glioblastomas reveals a link between MGMT promoter methylation and a hypermutator phenotype consequent to mismatch repair deficiency in treated gliobeasts, demonstrating that it can rapidly expand knowledge of the molecular basis of cancer.
