Journal ArticleDOI
Anterograde transport of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and its role in the brain.
C A Altar,Ning Cai,T Bliven,M Juhasz,J M Conner,J M Conner,Ann Acheson,Ronald M. Lindsay,Stanley J. Wiegand +8 more
TL;DR: The number of striatal neurons that contain the calcium-binding protein parvalbumin was decreased in BDNF+/− and BDNF−/− mice in direct proportion to the loss of BDNF protein, which is consistent with anterogradely supplied BDNF having a functional role in development or maintenance.
Journal ArticleDOI
SU11248 is a novel FLT3 tyrosine kinase inhibitor with potent activity in vitro and in vivo.
Anne Marie O'Farrell,Tinya Abrams,Helene A. Yuen,Theresa J. Ngai,Sharianne G. Louie,Kevin W.H. Yee,Lily Wong,Weiru Hong,Leslie Lee,Ajia Town,Beverly D. Smolich,William C. Manning,Lesley J. Murray,Michael Heinrich,Julie M. Cherrington +14 more
TL;DR: The in vivo efficacy of SU11248 (20 mg/kg/d) dramatically regresses FLT3-ITD tumors in the subcutaneous tumor xenograft model and prolongs survival in the bone marrow engraftment model, suggesting that further exploration of SU 11248 activity in AML patients is warranted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sources of stress in captivity
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review many of the potential stressors that may adversely affect animals living in captivity and present a suite of behavioral or physiological responses that will clearly indicate the cause of those responses; rather, it is up to us as managers and caretakers of animals in captivity to evaluate enclosures and husbandry practices to ensure the optimal well-being of animals.

Journal ArticleDOI
Synchronized renal tubular cell death involves ferroptosis
Andreas Linkermann,Rachid Skouta,Nina Himmerkus,Shrikant R. Mulay,Christin Dewitz,Federica De Zen,Ágnes Prókai,Gabriele Zuchtriegel,Fritz Krombach,Patrick Simon Welz,Ricardo Weinlich,Tom Vanden Berghe,Tom Vanden Berghe,Peter Vandenabeele,Peter Vandenabeele,Manolis Pasparakis,Markus Bleich,Joel M. Weinberg,Christoph A. Reichel,Jan Hinrich Bräsen,Ulrich Kunzendorf,Hans-Joachim Anders,Brent R. Stockwell,Douglas R. Green,Stefan Krautwald +24 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that renal tubules do not undergo sensitization to necroptosis upon genetic ablation of either FADD or caspase-8 and that the RIPK1 inhibitor necrostatin-1 (Nec-1) does not protect freshly isolated tubules from hypoxic injury, and ferroptosis mediates postischemic and toxic renal necrosis.

Oxidants, antioxidants, and the degenerative diseases of aging
TL;DR: It is argued that this damage to DNA, protein, and lipid is a major contributor to aging and to degenerative diseases of aging such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, immune-system decline, brain dysfunction, and cataracts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
TL;DR: The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals by the Institute for Laboratory Animal Research (ILAR) of the National Research Council in the USA, is well known among most individuals involved in laboratory animal care and use and the overall intention is to support the readers to build a programme which creates a system of selfregulation and regulatory oversight.
