Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications

TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
Abstract
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.

Volume Stabilization via $\alpha^\prime$ Corrections in Type IIB Theory with Fluxes

TL;DR: In this paper, the Type IIB string theory in the presence of various extra 7-brane pairs compactified on a warped Calabi-Yau threefold admits a conifold singularity.

Non-minimally coupled tachyonic inflation in warped string background

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the non-minimal coupling of tachyon field to the scalar curvature, as proposed by Piao et al, with the chosen coupling parameter does not produce the effective potential where the TACHYON field can roll down from T = 0 to large T along the slope of the potential, and find a correct choice of the parameters which ensures this requirement and support slow-roll inflation.

D3-brane vacua in stabilized compactifications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present conditions for supersymmetric D3-brane vacua in models with a single Kahler modulus, and explicitly calculate these vacua for D3branes moving on the tip of the warped deformed conifold.

TASI 2004 Lectures on the Phenomenology of Extra Dimensions

TL;DR: The phenomenology of large, warped, and universal extra dimensions is reviewed in this article, where characteristic signals are emphasized rather than an extensive survey, and the authors present a writeup of lectures given at the Theoretical Advanced Study Institute in 2004.

Fatal attraction: more on decaying anti-branes

TL;DR: In this paper, the decay of branes inside throat geometries that are supported by flux carrying charges opposite to the brane was studied and it was shown that stable configurations are not obtainable within the SUGR regime when back-reaction is confined in the IR and the associated uplift energy small.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension

TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.
