Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications

TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
Abstract
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.

An Alternative for Moduli Stabilisation

TL;DR: In this paper, the one-loop vacuum energy is explicitly computed for a class of perturbative string vacua where supersymmetry is spontaneously broken by a T-duality invariant asymmetric Scherk-Schwarz deformation.

General type IIB fluxes with SU(3) structures

TL;DR: In this article, a supersymmetric vacuum has to obey a set of constraints on fluxes as well as first order differential equations defined by the G-structures of the internal manifold.

D-brane non-perturbative effects and geometric deformations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied how non-perturbative dynamics on D-branes affects the ten-dimensional geometry and showed that a gaugino condensate changes the complex and the symplectic structures of the original manifold by deforming the supersymmetry conditions.

Toward large N thermal QCD from dual gravity: The heavy quarkonium potential

TL;DR: In this article, the gravity duals for strongly coupled large N QCD with fundamental flavors both at zero and nonzero temperatures were studied and the potential for the heavy fundamental quark-antiquark pairs, which are like the heavy quarkonium states in realistic QCD, can be computed and their linear-more properties at large separations and zero temperature could be demonstrated.

Classes of AdS4 type IIA/IIB compactifications with SU(3)xSU(3) structure

TL;DR: In this paper, an ansatz is introduced to solve the supersymmetry equations for warped N=1 AdS4 type II supergravity compactifications of general SU(3)xSU(3).

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension

TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.

Supergravity and a confining gauge theory: duality cascades and χSB-resolution of naked singularities

Superconformal field theory on threebranes at a Calabi-Yau singularity

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that string theory on AdS5 × X5 can be described by a certain N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theory, which we describe in detail.
