Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications

TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
Abstract
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.

Inflation in String Theory

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the recent progress achieved in the construction of inflationary models in the context of string theory with flux compactification and moduli stabilization, and discuss a possibility to test string theory through cosmological observations.

Explicit de Sitter flux vacua for global string models with chiral matter

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider the stabilisation of all closed string moduli (including dilaton, complex structure and Kahler moduli) in fluxed type IIB Calabi-Yau compactifications with chiral matter.

Orientifolds and mirror symmetry

TL;DR: In this paper, parity symmetries and cross-cap states in classes of N = 2 supersymmetric quantum eld theories in 1 + 1 dimensions were studied, including non-linear sigma models, gauged WZW models, Landau-Ginzburg models, and linear Sigma models.

Heavy Dark Matter Through the Higgs Portal

TL;DR: In this paper, a thermal relic abundance consistent with the measured density of dark matter is obtained for masses up to 30 times the size of the Higgs particle, and the authors show how such models may be given a UV completion within the context of so-called "Fat-Higgs" models.

Chiral D-brane Models with Frozen Open String Moduli

TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider a 2 × 2 orientifold construction where D6-branes wrap rigid 3-cycles and such extra adjoint fields do not arise, and derive the model building rules and consistency conditions for intersecting branes in this background.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension

TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.

Supergravity and a confining gauge theory: duality cascades and χSB-resolution of naked singularities

Superconformal field theory on threebranes at a Calabi-Yau singularity

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that string theory on AdS5 × X5 can be described by a certain N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theory, which we describe in detail.
