Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications

TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
Abstract
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.

Moduli stabilization with Fayet-Iliopoulos uplift

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the case where the uplift is provided by a Fayet-Iliopoulos sector, and they find that the modulus contribution to supersymmetry breaking is larger than in the previous models.

Type IIA supergravity and M -theory on manifolds with SU(4) structure

TL;DR: In this article, the general form of supersymmetric backgrounds with two real supercharges of M-theory and type IIA supergravity on eight-dimensional manifolds with SU(4) structure was given.

Accelerated universes from type IIA compactifications

TL;DR: In this article, slow-roll accelerating cosmologies arising from geometric compactifications of type IIA string theory on T{sup 6}/(Zsub 2} × Zsub 2) were studied, and a genetic algorithm was used to find quasi-de Sitter backgrounds with both slowroll parameters of order 0.1.

Dual Purpose Landscaping Tools: Small Extra Dimensions in AdS/CFT

TL;DR: In this paper, a class of AdS/CFT dual pairs with small internal dimensions on the gravity side was proposed, where 7-branes were used to nearly cancel the curvature energy of the internal dimensions while maintaining their stabilization.

Supersymmetric standard models, flux compactification and moduli stabilization

TL;DR: In this paper, the T-dual constructions of supersymmetric intersecting D6-models on Z 2 × Z 2 orientifolds, whose electroweak sector is parallel with the orientifold planes with Sp (2 f ) L × Sp ( 2 f ) R gauge symmetry, were derived and classified, which may lead, via gaugino condensation, to stabilization of toroidal Kahler moduli.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension

TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.

An Alternative to compactification

TL;DR: In this paper, a single 3-brane embedded in five dimensions was shown to reproduce four-dimensional Newtonian and general relativistic gravity to more than adequate precision, even without a gap in the Kaluza-Klein spectrum.

Superconformal field theory on threebranes at a Calabi-Yau singularity

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that string theory on AdS5 × X5 can be described by a certain N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theory, which we describe in detail.
