Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications

TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
Abstract
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.

Recombination of Intersecting D-Branes and Cosmological Inflation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider the interactions between Dp-branes intersecting at an arbitrary number of angles in the context of type II string theory and find that the recombination due to tachyon instabilities can preserve interesting features that are present in the intersecting brane models from the string model building point of view also after the end of inflation.

Multiple Inflation, Cosmic String Networks and the String Landscape

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined scenarios for which inflation is a two-step process, with a comparatively short inflationary epoch near the string scale and a longer period at a much lower energy (like the TeV scale).

On moduli and effective theory of N = 1 warped flux compactifications

TL;DR: In this paper, the moduli space of N = 1 type II warped compactions to flat space with generic internal fluxes is studied using the underlying integrable generalized complex structure that characterizes these vacua.

Warped Reheating in Multi-Throat Brane Inflation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the viability of reheating in multi-throat brane inflationary scenarios by estimating and comparing the time scales for the various processes involved, and found that the latter is preferred.

Fall of stringy de Sitter spacetime

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe how discrete flux choices lead to a closely spaced set of vacua and explore various decay channels, and find that in many situations NS5-brane mediated decays which exchange NSNS 3-form flux for D3-branes are comparatively very fast.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension

TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.

An Alternative to compactification

TL;DR: In this paper, a single 3-brane embedded in five dimensions was shown to reproduce four-dimensional Newtonian and general relativistic gravity to more than adequate precision, even without a gap in the Kaluza-Klein spectrum.

Supergravity and a confining gauge theory: duality cascades and χSB-resolution of naked singularities

TL;DR: In this article, a non-singular pure-supergravity background dual to the field theory on all scales, with small curvature everywhere if the ‘t Hooft coupling gsM is large, was proposed.

Superconformal field theory on threebranes at a Calabi-Yau singularity

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that string theory on AdS5 × X5 can be described by a certain N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theory, which we describe in detail.
