Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications

TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
Abstract
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.

Systematics of String Loop Corrections in Type IIB Calabi-Yau Flux Compactifications

TL;DR: In this paper, a low energy interpretation of Berg, Haack and Pajer's conjecture for the form of loop corrections to the Kaehler potential is given. But the results of this interpretation are not consistent.

Lectures on cosmic inflation and its potential stringy realizations

TL;DR: In this article, a brief introduction to hot big bang cosmology and cosmic inflation, together with a selection of some recent attempts to embed inflation into string theory, is presented, aimed at graduate students with a working knowledge of quantum field theory, but who are unfamiliar with the details of cosmology or string theory.

D-branes on general Script N = 1 backgrounds: superpotentials and D-terms

TL;DR: In this paper, the dynamics governing space-time filling D-branes on Type II flux backgrounds preserving four-dimensional = 1 supersymmetry is studied. But the analysis is kept on completely general grounds thanks to the use of recently proposed generalized calibrations, which also allow one to show the direct link of the superpotentials and D-terms with BPS domain walls and cosmic strings respectively.

Multithroat brane inflation

TL;DR: In this article, a scenario where brane inflation arises generically arising from the moduli stabilization was presented, where D3 and anti-D3-branes at the infrared ends of two different throats were used.

Compactifications of heterotic strings on non-Kähler complex manifolds II

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the consistency properties of non-Kahler complex manifolds with torsion and proposed a superpotential model for the non-kahler case.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension

TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.

An Alternative to compactification

TL;DR: In this paper, a single 3-brane embedded in five dimensions was shown to reproduce four-dimensional Newtonian and general relativistic gravity to more than adequate precision, even without a gap in the Kaluza-Klein spectrum.

Supergravity and a confining gauge theory: duality cascades and χSB-resolution of naked singularities

TL;DR: In this article, a non-singular pure-supergravity background dual to the field theory on all scales, with small curvature everywhere if the ‘t Hooft coupling gsM is large, was proposed.

Superconformal field theory on threebranes at a Calabi-Yau singularity

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that string theory on AdS5 × X5 can be described by a certain N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theory, which we describe in detail.
