Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications

TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
Abstract
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.

Bounds on masses of bulk fields in string compactifications

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an argument that generic string models with low-energy supersymmetry have, after moduli stabilization, bulk fields with masses which are parametrically lighter than 1/R.

The effective action of D‐branes in Calabi‐Yau orientifold compactifications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied type IIB superstring compactifications in the presence of space-time filling D-branes while preserving N = 1 supersymmetry in the effective four-dimensional theory.

How well can we really determine the scale of inflation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider whether the presence of additional fields and nonadiabaticity during inflation may have provided an additional source of primordial B modes competitive with those of the quasi-de Sitter vacuum, which could lead to a misinterpretation of the scale of inflation.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension

TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.

Supergravity and a confining gauge theory: duality cascades and χSB-resolution of naked singularities

Superconformal field theory on threebranes at a Calabi-Yau singularity

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that string theory on AdS5 × X5 can be described by a certain N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theory, which we describe in detail.
