Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications
TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.Abstract:
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.read more

The effective action of the heterotic string compactified on manifolds with SU(3) structure
TL;DR: In this paper, the N = 1 effective action of the heterotic string compactified on manifolds with SU(3) structure in the presence of background fluxes was derived using a Kaluza-Klein reduction and computed the moduli dependence of the Kahler potential, the gauge kinetic function and the superpotential entirely from fermionic terms of the reduced action.

TASI Lectures on Holographic Space-time, SUSY, and Gravitational Effective Field Theory
TL;DR: In this paper, a quasi-local quantum quantum mechanical construction based on the holographic principle is proposed, which leads to a non-singular quantum Big Bang cosmology, in which the asymptotic future is required to be a de Sitter space, with cosmological constant (c.c.) determined by cosmology initial conditions.

Volume modulus inflation and a low scale of SUSY breaking

TL;DR: In this paper, the relation between the Hubble constant and the scale of supersymmetry breaking is investigated in models of inflation dominated by a string modulus, and a model is proposed in which slow-roll inflation and a light gravitino are compatible, based on a superpotential with a triple gaugino condensation and the Kahler potential with the leading string corrections.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension
TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.
