Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications
TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.Abstract:
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.read more

The Universal Kaehler Modulus in Warped Compactifications
TL;DR: In this article, the universal Kaehler modulus in warped compactifications using the Hamiltonian formulation of general relativity is constructed at the linear level for both the volume modulus and its axionic partner, and nontrivial cancellations of warping effects are found in the dimensional reduction.

Axions as quintessence in string theory
TL;DR: In this article, a model of axion monodromy based on the axion quintessence in string theory is proposed, in which axions are broken by the presence of 5-branes placed in highly warped throats, and the resulting time dependence in the equation of state of dark energy is detectable.

Consistency conditions for brane worlds in arbitrary dimensions
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider brane world sum rules for compactifications involving an arbitrary number of spacetime dimensions and show that negative tension branes must appear in five-dimensional scenarios.

Flux algebra, Bianchi identities and Freed–Witten anomalies in F-theory compactifications
TL;DR: In this article, the structure of 4D gauged supergravity algebras corresponding to globally non-geometric compactifications of F-theory, admitting a local geometric description in terms of 10D supergravity, was discussed.

Moduli Stabilization in Non-Geometric Backgrounds
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that for certain types of type IIB orientifolds which have no Kahler moduli and are therefore intrinsically non-geometric, all moduli can be explicitly stabilized in terms of fluxes.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension
TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.
