Hierarchies from fluxes in string compactifications

TLDR
In this article, the authors show that the hierarchy of scales can be fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
Abstract
Warped compactifications with significant warping provide one of the few known mechanisms for naturally generating large hierarchies of physical scales. We demonstrate that this mechanism is realizable in string theory, and give examples involving orientifold compactifications of type-IIB string theory and F-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds. In each case, the hierarchy of scales is fixed by a choice of Ramond-Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz fluxes in the compact manifold. Our solutions involve compactifications of the Klebanov-Strassler gravity dual to a confining $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gauge theory, and the hierarchy reflects the small scale of chiral symmetry breaking in the dual gauge theory.

Accidental Inflation in String Theory

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that inflation in type IIB string theory driven by the volume modulus can be realized in the context of the racetrack-based Kallosh-Linde model of moduli stabilization.

Non-Perturbative Corrections and Modularity in N=1 Type IIB Compactifications

TL;DR: In this paper, non-perturbative corrections and modular properties of four-dimensional type IIB Calabi-Yau orientifolds are discussed and the D-instanton superpotential is related to a specific modular form counting D3, D1, D(-1) degeneracies.

${\cal R}^2$ inflation from scale invariant supergravity and anomaly free superstrings with fluxes

TL;DR: The scale invariant gravity theory coupled to conformally invariant matter is investigated in this paper, where it is shown that the conformally coupled scalars belong to an O(1, 1+n)/SO(1+n) manifold, while in the supersymmetric case the scalar manifold becomes isomorphic to the Kahlerian space.

The Large N limit of superconformal field theories and supergravity

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the large-N limits of certain conformal field theories in various dimensions include in their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes, spheres, and other compact manifolds.

Large Mass Hierarchy from a Small Extra Dimension

TL;DR: In this paper, the weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy, but this exponential arises not from gauge interactions but from the background metric, which is a slice of spacetime.
