Meta-Analysis of the Effects of Foods and Derived Products Containing Ellagitannins and Anthocyanins on Cardiometabolic Biomarkers: Analysis of Factors Influencing Variability of the Individual Responses.
María Teresa García-Conesa,Karen Chambers,Emilie Combet,Paula Pinto,Mar Garcia-Aloy,Mar Garcia-Aloy,Cristina Andres-Lacueva,Cristina Andres-Lacueva,Sonia de Pascual-Teresa,Pedro Mena,Alekxandra Konic Ristic,Alekxandra Konic Ristic,Wendy J Hollands,Paul A. Kroon,Ana Rodriguez-Mateos,Geoffrey Istas,Christos Kontogiorgis,Dilip K. Rai,Eileen R. Gibney,Christine Morand,Juan Carlos Espín,Antonio González-Sarrías +21 more
TL;DR: Blood pressure was significantly reduced by the two main sources of anthocyanins, berries and red grapes/wine, whereas waist circumference, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose were most significantly lowered by the ellagitannin-products, particularly nuts.

Recovery facilitation with Montmorency cherries following high-intensity, metabolically challenging exercise
Phillip G. Bell,Ian H. Walshe,Gareth W. Davison,Emma J. Stevenson,Glyn Howatson,Glyn Howatson +5 more
TL;DR: The results of the study suggest that Montmorency cherry concentrate can be an efficacious functional food for accelerating recovery and reducing exercise-induced inflammation following strenuous cycling exercise.

Drinks containing anthocyanin-rich blackcurrant extract decrease postprandial blood glucose, insulin and incretin concentrations
Monica L Castro-Acosta,Leanne Smith,Rosalind J. Miller,Danielle I. McCarthy,Jonathan A. Farrimond,Wendy L. Hall +5 more
TL;DR: Consumption of blackcurrant extract in amounts roughly equivalent to 100-g blackcurrants reduced postprandial glycemia, insulinemia and incretin secretion, which suggests that inclusion ofblackcurrant polyphenols in foods may provide cardio-metabolic health benefits.

Red raspberry and its anthocyanins: Bioactivity beyond antioxidant capacity
TL;DR: This review of the latest and available literature that assesses the health-promoting potential of red raspberries and their anthocyanin components in modulating metabolic disease risk, especially cardiovascular disease, cancer, all of which share critical metabolic, oxidative, and inflammatory links.

Metabolic Effects of Berries with Structurally Diverse Anthocyanins.
John Overall,Sierra A Bonney,Mickey Wilson,Arnold Beermann,Arnold Beermann,Mary H. Grace,Debora Esposito,Mary Ann Lila,Slavko Komarnytsky +8 more
TL;DR: Examination of effects of six berries with structurally diverse anthocyanin profiles on development of metabolic risk factors in the C57BL/6 mouse model of polygenic obesity showed a prominent discrepancy between biological activities of delphinidin/malvidin-versus cyanidin-type anthocianins that could be explained by differences in their structure and metabolism in the gut.

Bioavailability and bioefficacy of polyphenols in humans. I. Review of 97 bioavailability studies
TL;DR: Gallic acid and isoflavones are the most well-absorbed polyphenols, followed by catechins, flavanones, and quercetin glucosides, but with different kinetics, and the least well- absorption polyphenol are the proanthocyanidins, the galloylated tea catech ins, andThe anthocyanins.

Geometric method for measuring body surface area: A height-weight formula validated in infants, children, and adults†
TL;DR: Estimates of body surface area were made based on measurement of 81 subjects, ranging from premature infants to adults, and closer agreement was obtained with the equations and nomograms of Body, Brody, Faber and Melcher, and Sendroy and Cecchini, although minor deviations were noted in some age ranges.

PKSolver: An add-in program for pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data analysis in Microsoft Excel
TL;DR: The PKSolver provided pharmacokinetic researchers with a fast and easy-to-use tool for routine and basic PK and PD data analysis with a more user-friendly interface and its output could be generated in Microsoft Word in the form of an integrated report.

Bioavailability and bioefficacy of polyphenols in humans. II. Review of 93 intervention studies
Gary Williamson,Claudine Manach +1 more
TL;DR: It is time to rethink the design of in vitro and in vivo studies, so that these issues are carefully considered, and the length of human intervention studies should be increased, to more closely reflect the long-term dietary consumption of polyphenols.

Phenol-Explorer: an online comprehensive database on polyphenol contents in foods
V. Neveu,Jara Pérez-Jiménez,F. Vos,V. Crespy,L. du Chaffaut,L. Mennen,Craig Knox,Roman Eisner,Joseph A. Cruz,David S. Wishart,Augustin Scalbert +10 more
TL;DR: Phenol-Explorer is the first comprehensive web-based database on polyphenol content in foods and should help researchers to better understand the role of phytochemicals in the technical and nutritional quality of food, and food manufacturers to develop tailor-made healthy foods.
