TLDR
An experiment to probe the (quasi)localization of the photon is proposed, in which optical layers are constructed following the Fibonacci sequence, which has scaling with respect to the number of layers, as well as an interesting fluctuation.
Abstract
An experiment to probe the (quasi)localization of the photon is proposed, in which optical layers are constructed following the Fibonacci sequence. The transmission coefficient has a rich structure as a function of the wavelength of light and, in fact, is multifractal. For particular wavelengths for which the resonance condition is satisfied, the light propagation has scaling with respect to the number of layers, as well as an interesting fluctuation.

Photonic and phononic quasicrystals

TL;DR: In this paper, the peculiarities of quasiperiodic order for the properties of photonic and phononic (sonic) heterostructures are discussed, and a review of the relationship between 1D and 2D structures based on one-dimensional substitutional sequences such as the Fibonacci, Thue-Morse, period-doubling, Rudin-Shapiro and Cantor sequence is presented.

Deterministic aperiodic nanostructures for photonics and plasmonics applications

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a detailed review of the conceptual foundation and physical mechanisms governing the complex optical response of deterministic aperiodic nano structures in relation to the engineering of novel devices and functionalities, mainly focusing on passive and active planar structures with enhanced light-matter coupling for photonics and plasmonics technologies.

Integrable mappings and nonlinear integrable lattice equations

TL;DR: In this article, a systematic derivation of polynomial invariants of integrable partial differential equations is given using the associated linear spectral problems (Lax pairs), where the level sets are algebraic varieties on which the trajectories of the corresponding dynamical systems lie.

Exploiting aperiodic designs in nanophotonic devices

TL;DR: The role of aperiodic order-order without periodicity-in the design of different optical devices in one, two and three dimensions is considered and the possibility of constructing optical devices based on a modular design of the multilayered structure is analyzed, illustrating how this additional degree of freedom enhances the optical performance in some specific applications.

A theoretical analysis of magneto-optical Faraday effect of YIG films with random multilayer structures

TL;DR: In this article, the magneto-optical (MO) Faraday effect of Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi:YIG) films with random multilayer structures was analyzed using the random matrix approach.
