Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding the Multiple Role of Mitochondria in Parkinson's Disease and Related Disorders: Lesson From Genetics and Protein-Interaction Network.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors summarize and discuss the deep interconnections between mitochondrial dysfunction and basal ganglia disorders, with an emphasis into the molecular triggers to the disease process, and find that understanding the regulation of mitochondrial pathways may be beneficial in finding pharmacological or non-pharmacological interventions to delay the onset of neurodegenerative diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

L-kynurenine: Metabolism and mechanism of neuroprotection

TL;DR: This review summarizes the main steps of the kynurenine pathway under normal conditions, discusses the metabolic disturbances and changes in this pathway in certain neurodegenerative disorders, and introduces the therapeutic applications of this pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI

Abnormal Carbohydrate Metabolism in Cerebrospinal Fluid in Rett Syndrome

TL;DR: Analyzing lactate, pyruvate, α-ketoglutarate, and malate in cerebrospinal fluid by high-performance liquid chromatography suggested that reduced nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide-ubiquinone oxidoreductase may be deficient in the brain in Rett syndrome patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metal attenuating therapies in neurodegenerative disease

TL;DR: In this review, studies spanning a wide variety of neurodegenerative disorders are presented with their involvement of transition metals compared and contrasted, including more detailed treatise in relation to Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and prion diseases.
