Determination of refractive index of printed and unprinted paper using spectroscopic ellipsometry

TL;DR: In this article, an attempt is made to address the basic physical properties of printed and unprinted paper surfaces by using spectroscopic ellipsometry in the range 300-900 nm to determine the effective complex-valued refractive index.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cathodic behavior of bismuth. I. Ellipsometric study of the electroreduction of thin Bi2O3 films

TL;DR: In this paper, the electroreduction of thin Bi 2 O 3 films was characterized by employing electrochemical techniques and in situ ellipsometry, and the optical response was described in terms of a bilayer model.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effective medium theory and the attenuation of graphite fiber composites

TL;DR: In this article, the measured attenuation is interpreted in terms of effective medium theory, according to which the composites may either behave as a transparent conductor (with essentially no conductivity) if the fibers don't touch each other, or else as an actual, but less efficient conductor for the case where electrical contacts between the fibers have been established.
Journal ArticleDOI

The performance of large area optical filters using dc magnetron sputtered metal thin films in oxide-metal-oxide sandwiches

TL;DR: In this paper, the properties of metal filters with tin oxide dielectric matching layers are reported when they are made by planar magnetron sputtering onto a flexible polyester sheet.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electrospray aerosol deposition of water soluble polymer thin films

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report the fabrication and characterization of thin films from the water soluble polymer sodium poly[2-(3-thienyl)-ethyloxy-4-butylsulfonate] (PTEBS) by electrospray deposition.

Ellipsometry and polarized light

TL;DR: In this article, the polarization of light waves and propagation of polarized light through polarizing optical systems are discussed. But the authors focus on the application of ellipsometry in the field of measurement in ellipsometer systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Variational Approach to the Theory of the Effective Magnetic Permeability of Multiphase Materials

TL;DR: In this article, the authors established and applied variational theorems for the derivation of bounds for the effective magnetic permeability of macroscopically homogeneous and isotropic multiphase materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of effective-medium models of microscopic surface roughness by spectroscopic ellipsometry

TL;DR: In this article, Bruggeman and Maxwell Garnett showed that the dielectric properties of microscopically rough layers of thicknesses 100-500 \AA{}A are accurately modeled in the effective medium approximation.
