Effective medium theory and angular dispersion of optical constants in films with oblique columnar structure

TL;DR: In this paper, the optical properties of thin films, containing metal and voids in an oblique columnar structure, were modelled in the quasi-static limit, and the complex dielectric function was shown to be strongly dependent on the angle of incidence and on the columnar orientation for p-polarised light.
Journal ArticleDOI

In situ real-time studies of nickel silicide phase formation

TL;DR: In this article, the formation of NiSi films on Si was studied using Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, atomic force microscopy, and ellipsometry, and their optical databases in the 2-4 eV photon range were established.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interferometric Sensing of Biomolecular Binding Using Nanoporous Aluminum Oxide Templates

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrated the feasibility of sensing adsorption of untagged molecular analytes in an electrochemically fabricated porous aluminum oxide template with regular nanometer dimension pores by monitoring reflectivity spectra.
Journal ArticleDOI

In situ investigation of the growth of rf glow-discharge deposited amorphous germanium and silicon films

TL;DR: In this article, an in situ investigation of the growth of rf glowdischarge amorphous germanium and silicon (a•Ge:H) films using fast real-time spectroscopic phase-modulated elipsometry is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ellipsometry investigation of the effects of annealing temperature on the optical properties of indium tin oxide thin films studied by Drude–Lorentz model

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry to estimate the optical band-gap energy of ITO-covered float glasses, as well as X-ray measurements to study the electric and optical properties.

Ellipsometry and polarized light

TL;DR: In this article, the polarization of light waves and propagation of polarized light through polarizing optical systems are discussed. But the authors focus on the application of ellipsometry in the field of measurement in ellipsometer systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Variational Approach to the Theory of the Effective Magnetic Permeability of Multiphase Materials

TL;DR: In this article, the authors established and applied variational theorems for the derivation of bounds for the effective magnetic permeability of macroscopically homogeneous and isotropic multiphase materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of effective-medium models of microscopic surface roughness by spectroscopic ellipsometry

TL;DR: In this article, Bruggeman and Maxwell Garnett showed that the dielectric properties of microscopically rough layers of thicknesses 100-500 \AA{}A are accurately modeled in the effective medium approximation.
