Dependence of the optical properties of UHV deposited silver thin films on the deposition parameters and their relation to the nanostructure of the films

TL;DR: In this paper, the Kramers-Kronig method was used to analyze the reflectivity curves of the silver films to obtain their optical constants, and the relationship between the atomic force microscopy results, SZM predictions and EMA results, and hence the optical properties of silver thin films.

High vacuum chemical vapor deposition (HV-CVD) of alumina thin films

TL;DR: In this article, a high vacuum chemical vapor deposition (HV-CVD) was used to produce high quality alumina thin films from aluminum isopropoxide as precursor in a novel high vacuum CVD reactor.
Journal ArticleDOI

New forms of hydrogen-free amorphous carbon films

TL;DR: In this article, amorphous carbon films free of hydrogen, deposited at room temperature by magnetron sputtering, were found to exhibit amorphous diamond character, and they were studied during deposition with real-time and in situ spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) from which the transparency, spectral dependence and composition were determined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optical Properties of Metals: Au

TL;DR: In this article, the dielectric function of Au films is determined ellipsometrically in the wave-number ranges 700 cm−1 ≦ v ≦ 1900 cm− 1 and 2500 cm−2 ≦v ≦ 3000 cm −1.

Ellipsometry and polarized light

TL;DR: In this article, the polarization of light waves and propagation of polarized light through polarizing optical systems are discussed. But the authors focus on the application of ellipsometry in the field of measurement in ellipsometer systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Variational Approach to the Theory of the Effective Magnetic Permeability of Multiphase Materials

TL;DR: In this article, the authors established and applied variational theorems for the derivation of bounds for the effective magnetic permeability of macroscopically homogeneous and isotropic multiphase materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of effective-medium models of microscopic surface roughness by spectroscopic ellipsometry

TL;DR: In this article, Bruggeman and Maxwell Garnett showed that the dielectric properties of microscopically rough layers of thicknesses 100-500 \AA{}A are accurately modeled in the effective medium approximation.
