Characterization of Si nanorods by spectroscopic ellipsometry with efficient theoretical modeling

TL;DR: In this paper, Si columnar nanostructures are treated as a graded layer with each sub-layer modeled as a mixture of Si and voids with varying porosity fraction, and the rigorous coupled-wave analysis and finite element Green's function method are used in modeling Si naorods as a stack of disks with varying diameters and thicknesses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical Stability of Templated Mesoporous Silica Thin Films

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured substantial reductions in wall density and elastic modulus (Ewall), due to incomplete silica condensation, and they used nanoindentation to measure the elastic moduli of disordered (sponge-like) and ordered (honeycomb-like), thin films.
Journal ArticleDOI

Density of glow discharge amorphous silicon films determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved interpretation of the ellipsometric data is based on a tetrahedron model that takes into account the influence of hydrogen incorporation in the amorphous network.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optical Properties of Gold−Silver Iodide Nanoparticle Pair Structures

TL;DR: In this article, a red-shifted and broadened Au particle plasmon resonance band and the absence of the AgI exciton peak normally observed at λ = 425 nm were observed in porous anodic aluminum oxide via electrochemical template synthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Beyond graphene: Clean, hydrogenated and halogenated silicene, germanene, stanene, and plumbene

TL;DR: In this article, the properties of halogenated Xenes are investigated and the consequences of the larger atomic radii on the atomic geometry, the energetic stability, and possible epitaxial preparations are discussed.

Ellipsometry and polarized light

TL;DR: In this article, the polarization of light waves and propagation of polarized light through polarizing optical systems are discussed. But the authors focus on the application of ellipsometry in the field of measurement in ellipsometer systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Variational Approach to the Theory of the Effective Magnetic Permeability of Multiphase Materials

TL;DR: In this article, the authors established and applied variational theorems for the derivation of bounds for the effective magnetic permeability of macroscopically homogeneous and isotropic multiphase materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of effective-medium models of microscopic surface roughness by spectroscopic ellipsometry

TL;DR: In this article, Bruggeman and Maxwell Garnett showed that the dielectric properties of microscopically rough layers of thicknesses 100-500 \AA{}A are accurately modeled in the effective medium approximation.
