Supporting Online Material for Relating Introspective Accuracy to Individual Differences in Brain Structure
TLDR
It is shown that introspective ability is correlated with gray matter volume in the anterior prefrontal cortex, a region that shows marked evolutionary development in humans, and this findings point to a focal neuroanatomical substrate for introspection ability, a substrate distinct from that supporting primary perception.About:

Impaired awareness of action-outcome contingency and causality during healthy ageing and following ventromedial prefrontal cortex lesions
Claire O'Callaghan,Claire O'Callaghan,Matilde M. Vaghi,Berit Brummerloh,Rudolf N. Cardinal,Trevor W. Robbins +5 more
TL;DR: Preserved responding in thevmPFC group suggests that this region is not critical for computing action-outcome contingencies to guide behaviour, and highlights a critical role for the vmPFC in supporting awareness, or metacognitive ability, during learning.

Amygdala structure and the tendency to regard the social system as legitimate and desirable
H. Hannah Nam,John T. Jost,Lisa Kaggen,Lisa Kaggen,Daniel Campbell-Meiklejohn,Jay J. Van Bavel +5 more
TL;DR: Nam et al. as discussed by the authors found that larger bilateral amygdala volume was positively correlated with the tendency to believe that the existing social order was legitimate and desirable, and individuals with larger amygdala volume were less likely to participate in subsequent protest movements.

A quantitative philology of introspection.
TL;DR: The results show that (a) it is possible to devise a consistent metric to quantify the history of a high-level concept such as introspection, cementing the path for a new quantitative philology and (b) the increased ability of human thought for self-reflection that the Axial Age brought about is still heavily determined by societal contingencies beyond the orality-literacy nexus.

Metacognition of attention during tactile discrimination
TL;DR: Results demonstrate that the degree of attention can be subjectively experienced and reported accurately, independent from task difficulty and knowledge about task performance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Altering movement parameters disrupts metacognitive accuracy.
TL;DR: It is shown that increasing movement speed above participants' baseline measures disrupts their ability to form accurate confidence judgements about their performance, and this finding is referred to as the adamantly wrong effect.

Voxel-Based Morphometry—The Methods
John Ashburner,Karl J. Friston +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the steps involved in VBM, with particular emphasis on segmenting gray matter from MR images with non-uniformity artifact and provide evaluations of the assumptions that underpin the method, including the accuracy of the segmentation and the assumptions made about the statistical distribution of the data.

A fast diffeomorphic image registration algorithm
TL;DR: DARTEL has been applied to intersubject registration of 471 whole brain images, and the resulting deformations were evaluated in terms of how well they encode the shape information necessary to separate male and female subjects and to predict the ages of the subjects.

Transformed Up‐Down Methods in Psychoacoustics
TL;DR: A broad class of up‐down methods used in psychoacoustics with due emphasis on the related problems of parameter estimation and the efficient placing of observations is described, including examples where conventional techniques are inapplicable.
