TLDR
It is shown that introspective ability is correlated with gray matter volume in the anterior prefrontal cortex, a region that shows marked evolutionary development in humans, and this findings point to a focal neuroanatomical substrate for introspection ability, a substrate distinct from that supporting primary perception.

Neuron-Based Heredity and Human Evolution

TL;DR: Evidence is presented of bipartite evolutionary processes—Darwinian and Neolamarckian—driving human descent from a common ancestor shared with the great apes.

The computations underlying human confidence reports are probabilistic, but not Bayesian

TL;DR: It is found that confidence reports are probabilistic: subjects take sensory uncertainty into account on a trial-to-trial basis, but they do not do so in the way predicted by the Bayesian hypothesis, suggesting that implementational constraints cause explicit confidence reports to deviate from being Bayesian.
Journal ArticleDOI

Testosterone induces off-line perceptual learning

TL;DR: The findings show that testosterone influences perceptual learning on a timescale consistent with an influence on “off-line” consolidation processes.

A neurocomputational model for intrinsic reward

TL;DR: Computational modelling of affective dynamics can index the subjective value of intrinsic relative to extrinsic rewards, a ‘computational hedonometer’ that reflects both behavior and neural activity that quantifies the affective value of experience.

Voxel-Based Morphometry—The Methods

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the steps involved in VBM, with particular emphasis on segmenting gray matter from MR images with non-uniformity artifact and provide evaluations of the assumptions that underpin the method, including the accuracy of the segmentation and the assumptions made about the statistical distribution of the data.

A fast diffeomorphic image registration algorithm

TL;DR: DARTEL has been applied to intersubject registration of 471 whole brain images, and the resulting deformations were evaluated in terms of how well they encode the shape information necessary to separate male and female subjects and to predict the ages of the subjects.

Transformed Up‐Down Methods in Psychoacoustics

TL;DR: A broad class of up‐down methods used in psychoacoustics with due emphasis on the related problems of parameter estimation and the efficient placing of observations is described, including examples where conventional techniques are inapplicable.
