TLDR
It is shown that introspective ability is correlated with gray matter volume in the anterior prefrontal cortex, a region that shows marked evolutionary development in humans, and this findings point to a focal neuroanatomical substrate for introspection ability, a substrate distinct from that supporting primary perception.

Self-assessment of social cognitive ability in schizophrenia: Association with social cognitive test performance, informant assessments of social cognitive ability, and everyday outcomes

TL;DR: The results suggest that consideration of self-assessment is critical when attempting to evaluate the causes of disability and when trying to implement interventions targeting disability reduction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metacognitive Mechanisms Underlying Lucid Dreaming

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the link between the neural correlates of lucid dreaming and thought monitoring and found that high-lucidity participants showed greater gray matter volume in the frontopolar cortex (BA9/10) compared with those in the low-luceidity group.
Journal ArticleDOI

Weighting mean and variability during confidence judgments.

TL;DR: It is hypothesized that some stimulus variables could affect confidence judgments above and beyond their impact on performance and observers’ confidence judgments put different weights on the stimulus variables that limit performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Individual differences in brain structure underpin empathizing–systemizing cognitive styles in male adults

TL;DR: An underlying neuroanatomical basis is suggested linked to the discrepancy between these two important dimensions of individual differences in cognitive style: systemizing and empathizing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accurate Metacognition for Visual Sensory Memory Representations

TL;DR: It is shown that subjects store more objects in sensory memory than they can attend to but, at the same time, have similar metacognition for sensory memory and working memory representations.

Voxel-Based Morphometry—The Methods

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the steps involved in VBM, with particular emphasis on segmenting gray matter from MR images with non-uniformity artifact and provide evaluations of the assumptions that underpin the method, including the accuracy of the segmentation and the assumptions made about the statistical distribution of the data.

A fast diffeomorphic image registration algorithm

TL;DR: DARTEL has been applied to intersubject registration of 471 whole brain images, and the resulting deformations were evaluated in terms of how well they encode the shape information necessary to separate male and female subjects and to predict the ages of the subjects.

Transformed Up‐Down Methods in Psychoacoustics

TL;DR: A broad class of up‐down methods used in psychoacoustics with due emphasis on the related problems of parameter estimation and the efficient placing of observations is described, including examples where conventional techniques are inapplicable.
