TLDR
It is shown that introspective ability is correlated with gray matter volume in the anterior prefrontal cortex, a region that shows marked evolutionary development in humans, and this findings point to a focal neuroanatomical substrate for introspection ability, a substrate distinct from that supporting primary perception.

Grasping others' movements: Rapid discrimination of object size from observed hand movements.

TL;DR: It is found that as early as 80 ms after movement onset, participants were able to discriminate object size from the observation of grasping movements delivered from the lateral viewpoint, suggesting that observers are able to decodeobject size from kinematic sources specified early on in the movement.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alcohol increases hypnotic susceptibility.

TL;DR: People in the alcohol condition were more susceptible to hypnotic suggestions than participants in the placebo condition, which supports theories postulating that attenuation of executive function facilitates hypnotic response, and contradicts theories postulated that hypnoticresponse involves enhanced inhibitory, attentional or other executive function.
Journal ArticleDOI

Introspection during visual search

TL;DR: This work asked whether participants could access, through pure mental monitoring, the nature of the cognitive processes that underlie two visual search tasks: an effortless "pop-out" search, and a difficult, effortful, conjunction search.
Journal ArticleDOI

Individual susceptibility to TMS affirms the precuneal role in meta-memory upon recollection

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of 20min repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the precuneus and the vertex of the hippocampus was investigated in a task-based functional MRI.
Journal ArticleDOI

Preserved metacognitive ability despite unilateral or bilateral anterior prefrontal resection

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the brain can redistribute and remap metacognition in response to injury and provide experimental evidence against the conventional hypothesis whereby cognitive functions are directly and lastingly linked to particular cortical structures.

Voxel-Based Morphometry—The Methods

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the steps involved in VBM, with particular emphasis on segmenting gray matter from MR images with non-uniformity artifact and provide evaluations of the assumptions that underpin the method, including the accuracy of the segmentation and the assumptions made about the statistical distribution of the data.

A fast diffeomorphic image registration algorithm

TL;DR: DARTEL has been applied to intersubject registration of 471 whole brain images, and the resulting deformations were evaluated in terms of how well they encode the shape information necessary to separate male and female subjects and to predict the ages of the subjects.

Transformed Up‐Down Methods in Psychoacoustics

TL;DR: A broad class of up‐down methods used in psychoacoustics with due emphasis on the related problems of parameter estimation and the efficient placing of observations is described, including examples where conventional techniques are inapplicable.
