Supporting Online Material for Relating Introspective Accuracy to Individual Differences in Brain Structure

TLDR
It is shown that introspective ability is correlated with gray matter volume in the anterior prefrontal cortex, a region that shows marked evolutionary development in humans, and this findings point to a focal neuroanatomical substrate for introspection ability, a substrate distinct from that supporting primary perception.

Certain, but incorrect: on the relation between subjective certainty and accuracy in sound localisation.

TL;DR: Novel findings reveal that listeners quickly update their subjective confidence on sound position, when they experience an altered listening condition, even in the absence of feedback, and document a dissociation between accuracy and subjective certainty when mapping auditory input to space.

Prediction of Behavioral Traits via Anatomical Connectivity Fingerprint

TL;DR: Using diffusion MRI and behavioral data from the Human Connectome Project, patterns of anatomical connectivity that underlay different behaviors via a model of partial least square regression are revealed and it is demonstrated that these patterns could be used to predict multiple behavioral traits of unseen subjects.

Perceptual metacognition of human faces is causally supported by function of the lateral prefrontal cortex

TL;DR: Using model-based analyses following a causal intervention to LPFC in humans, it is demonstrated that LPFC promotes metacognitive awareness of the orientation of emotional faces—although not of their emotional expressions, and indicates that the role of LPFC function in metacognition encompasses perceptual experiences of naturalistic social stimuli.

Conversion of concept-specific decision confidence into integrative introspection in primates.

TL;DR: The authors found that the posterior inferior parietal lobe (pIPL) was not coding the wagering per se (i.e., just high bet or low bet), but became more active when monkeys successfully chose the optimal bet option based on mnemonic decision performance.

Prefrontal Control of the Tactile Sense

Juha Gogulski
TL;DR: The neural mechanisms underlying different levels of tactile processing in healthy subjects were dissected to suggest that the prefrontal cortex contains neural substrates for fine control of tactile discrimination and the results indicate that the cortex might contain specific structural correlates for the metacognitive ability.

Voxel-Based Morphometry—The Methods

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the steps involved in VBM, with particular emphasis on segmenting gray matter from MR images with non-uniformity artifact and provide evaluations of the assumptions that underpin the method, including the accuracy of the segmentation and the assumptions made about the statistical distribution of the data.

A fast diffeomorphic image registration algorithm

TL;DR: DARTEL has been applied to intersubject registration of 471 whole brain images, and the resulting deformations were evaluated in terms of how well they encode the shape information necessary to separate male and female subjects and to predict the ages of the subjects.

Transformed Up‐Down Methods in Psychoacoustics

TL;DR: A broad class of up‐down methods used in psychoacoustics with due emphasis on the related problems of parameter estimation and the efficient placing of observations is described, including examples where conventional techniques are inapplicable.
