The Definition and Prevalence of Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome.

TLDR
Obesity is associated with a large decrease in life expectancy, but up to 30% of obese patients are metabolically healthy with insulin sensitivity similar to healthy normal weight individuals, lower visceral fat content, and lower intima media thickness of the carotid artery than the majority of metabolically "unhealthy" obese patients.
Abstract
Increase in prevalence of obesity has become a worldwide major health problem in adults, as well as among children and adolescents. Furthermore, total adiposity and truncal subcutaneous fat accumulation during adolescence are positively and independently associated with atherosclerosis at adult ages. Centrally accumulation of body fat is associated with insulin resistance, whereas distribution of body fat in a peripheral pattern is metabolically less important. Obesity is associated with a large decrease in life expectancy. The effect of extreme obesity on mortality is greater among younger than older adults. In this respect, obesity is also associated with increased risk of several cancer types. However, up to 30% of obese patients are metabolically healthy with insulin sensitivity similar to healthy normal weight individuals, lower visceral fat content, and lower intima media thickness of the carotid artery than the majority of metabolically “unhealthy” obese patients.

Mendelian Randomization Analysis Reveals Causal Effects of the Human Gut Microbiota on Abdominal Obesity.

TL;DR: In this article, a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to determine the causal relationship between specific gut microbiota and abdominal obesity, based on genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics, to evaluate whether the gut microbiota affects abdominal obesity.

An exploration of new methods for metabolic syndrome examination by infrared thermography and knowledge mining

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors tried to explore the differences between healthy people and MS patients through infrared thermography (IRT), and they tried to solve the observation region of the IRT image with the help of knowledge mining technology.

Carotid intima-media thickness, hypertension, and dyslipidemia in obese adolescents.

TL;DR: The high number of dyslipidemia and hypertension in obese adolescents need an early detection of cardiovascular complication, and no difference of CIMT based on gender between adolescents aged below 18 is found.

The Metabolic Efficacy of a Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDA) Derivative in Treating Diet- and Genetic-Induced Obesity

TL;DR: Results support the idea to further promote this synthetic CBDA derivative toward clinical evaluation in humans, and show that EPM301 ameliorated obesity and its metabolic abnormalities in both DIO and GIO.

Adenovirus transduction to express human ACE2 causes obesity-specific morbidity in mice, impeding studies on the effect of host nutritional status on SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of obesity on disease severity following SARS-CoV-2 infection using a well-established mouse model of diet-induced obesity was investigated, and significant weight loss was observed in obese mice treated with the adenovirus vector.
