The immune system, adaptation, and machine learning

TLDR
A dynamical model for the immune system is described that is based on the network hypothesis of Jerne, and is simple enough to simulate on a computer, and has a strong similarity to an approach to learning and artificial intelligence introduced by Holland, called the classifier system.

Swarm-Based Simulations for Immunobiology

TL;DR: This contribution presents a computer model of information processing within a highly distributed biological system of the human body, which is orchestrated over multiple scales of time and space: the immune system, and considers the complement system, for which initial simulation results are presented.

Genetic algorithm seeding of idiotypic networks for mobile-robot navigation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a method for encoding behaviours as a variable set of attributes, and show that when the encoding is used with a GA, multiple sets of diverse behaviours can develop naturally and rapidly, providing much greater scope for flexible behaviour selection.

A quantum-inspired vortex search algorithm with application to function optimization

TL;DR: A quantum-inspired vortex search algorithm is presented, which is superior to the original one and demonstrated by the experimental results of some benchmark functions extreme optimization.

Optimal Control of Induction Motor Using Immune Algorithm Based Fuzzy Neural Network

Dong Hwa Kim, +1 more
TL;DR: The proposed learning model is presented in an immune based fuzzy-neural network (FNN) form which can handle linguistic knowledge by immune algorithm and a new immune algorithm based optimization is proposed for tuning of membership functions and structure of the proposed model.

A Knowledge Based Educational (KBEd) framework for enhancing practical skills in engineering distance learners through an augmented reality environment

TL;DR: This research explores the use of KBE principles to automate instructional design in engineering distance learning technologies through a Knowledge Based Educational (KBEd) framework that facilitates the capturing, modelling and automating on-campus tutors’ knowledge and introduces it to distance learning and teaching approaches.

Somatic generation of antibody diversity

TL;DR: In the genome of a germ-line cell, the genetic information for an immunoglobulin polypeptide chain is contained in multiple gene segments scattered along a chromosome which are assembled by recombination which leads to the formation of a complete gene.

A mathematical model illustrating the theory of turbulence

TL;DR: In this article, the application of statistical analysis and statistical mechanics to the problem of turbulent fluid motion has attracted much attention in recent years, and the authors investigated a complicated system of nonlinear equations, in order to find out enough about the properties of the solutions of these equations that insight can be obtained into the various patterns exhibited by the field and that data can be derived concerning the relative frequencies of these patterns in the hope that in this way a basis may be found for the calculation of important values.
