The immune system, adaptation, and machine learning

TLDR
A dynamical model for the immune system is described that is based on the network hypothesis of Jerne, and is simple enough to simulate on a computer, and has a strong similarity to an approach to learning and artificial intelligence introduced by Holland, called the classifier system.

Test of a statistical model for molecular recognition in biological repertoires.

TL;DR: The RAD model is found to provide the best description for binding data for over eight orders of magnitude on the affinity scale, and to account for a relationship between repertoire size and the maximal obtainable affinity within different repertoires, which points to a potential universality of the rules that govern affinity distributions in biology.

Efficient combined immune-decomposition algorithm for optimal buffer allocation in production lines for throughput and profit maximization

TL;DR: A combined artificial immune system optimization algorithm in conjunction with a decomposition method to optimally allocate buffers in transfer lines to achieve optimal system performance under buffers space constraints is implemented.

Hardware fault tolerance: an immunological solution

TL;DR: The proposed methods demonstrate how through a process of self/non-self-differentiation, the hardware immune system creates a set of tolerance conditions to monitor the change in states of the hardware.

Parameter free Jaya algorithm for truss sizing-layout optimization under natural frequency constraints

TL;DR: Optimization results prove the superiority of PFJA over standard JA, MJA and other metaheuristic optimizers available in the literature.

Somatic generation of antibody diversity

TL;DR: In the genome of a germ-line cell, the genetic information for an immunoglobulin polypeptide chain is contained in multiple gene segments scattered along a chromosome which are assembled by recombination which leads to the formation of a complete gene.

A mathematical model illustrating the theory of turbulence

TL;DR: In this article, the application of statistical analysis and statistical mechanics to the problem of turbulent fluid motion has attracted much attention in recent years, and the authors investigated a complicated system of nonlinear equations, in order to find out enough about the properties of the solutions of these equations that insight can be obtained into the various patterns exhibited by the field and that data can be derived concerning the relative frequencies of these patterns in the hope that in this way a basis may be found for the calculation of important values.
