The immune system, adaptation, and machine learning

TLDR
A dynamical model for the immune system is described that is based on the network hypothesis of Jerne, and is simple enough to simulate on a computer, and has a strong similarity to an approach to learning and artificial intelligence introduced by Holland, called the classifier system.

Self-nonself discrimination in a computer

TL;DR: A method for change detection which is based on the generation of T cells in the immune system is described, which reveals computational costs of the system and preliminary experiments illustrate how the method might be applied to the problem of computer viruses.

A theory of regulation and self‐nonself discrimination in an immune network

TL;DR: A mechanism is suggested for the regulation of the immune response that involves antigen‐binding and anti‐idiotypic lymphocytes and antigen‐specific T cell‐dependent factors, which are assumed to be able to block the receptors of both T cells and cells of the anti-idiotymic specificities.

A network theory of the immune system.

TL;DR: The face that every antibody also had antigenic properties leads to the existence of a functional network of interacting antibodies and lymphocytes in the immune system, and some of the principal features of the immune response such as normal primary and secondary response, low and highzone tolerance induction, and memory can be reproduced.

Hypermutation at the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus in a pre-B-cell line.

TL;DR: Most cells in the well-known pre-B-lymphocyte line 18-81 have correctly assembled genes for both alleles at the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus, but only one allele is "active"; the other, "silent" allele contains an amber termination codon.
