The immune system, adaptation, and machine learning

TLDR
A dynamical model for the immune system is described that is based on the network hypothesis of Jerne, and is simple enough to simulate on a computer, and has a strong similarity to an approach to learning and artificial intelligence introduced by Holland, called the classifier system.

The construction of a Boolean competitive neural network using ideas from immunology

TL;DR: The results show that the network is a promising tool for solving problems that are inherently binary, and also that the immune system provides a new paradigm to search for neural network learning algorithms.

An artificial immune based intrusion detection model for computer and telecommunication systems

TL;DR: A security system for fraud detection of intruders and improper use of both computer system and mobile telecommunication operations, based upon data analysis inspired by the natural immune human system is proposed.

Immune network behavior—I. From stationary states to limit cycle oscillations

TL;DR: It is shown that the so-called immune states lose stability if B cell and antibody concentrations change on different time scales, and the structure of stable and unstable manifolds of saddle-type equilibria are derived, and these bifurcations play a crucial role in determining the parameter regimes in which the model exhibits oscillatory behavior.

How a well-adapting immune system remembers.

TL;DR: In this article, the adaptive immune system is modeled as a dynamic Bayesian machinery that updates its memory repertoire by balancing evidence from new pathogen encounters against past experience of infection to predict and prepare for future threats.
Journal ArticleDOI

An immunological approach to mobile robot reactive navigation

TL;DR: A reactive immune network (RIN) is proposed and employed for mobile robot navigation within unknown environments and an adaptive virtual target method is integrated to solve the local minima problem in navigation.

Somatic generation of antibody diversity

TL;DR: In the genome of a germ-line cell, the genetic information for an immunoglobulin polypeptide chain is contained in multiple gene segments scattered along a chromosome which are assembled by recombination which leads to the formation of a complete gene.

A mathematical model illustrating the theory of turbulence

TL;DR: In this article, the application of statistical analysis and statistical mechanics to the problem of turbulent fluid motion has attracted much attention in recent years, and the authors investigated a complicated system of nonlinear equations, in order to find out enough about the properties of the solutions of these equations that insight can be obtained into the various patterns exhibited by the field and that data can be derived concerning the relative frequencies of these patterns in the hope that in this way a basis may be found for the calculation of important values.
