The immune system, adaptation, and machine learning

TLDR
A dynamical model for the immune system is described that is based on the network hypothesis of Jerne, and is simple enough to simulate on a computer, and has a strong similarity to an approach to learning and artificial intelligence introduced by Holland, called the classifier system.

A new holistic systems approach to the design of heat treated alloy steels using a biologically inspired multi-objective optimisation algorithm

TL;DR: A modified population adaptive based immune algorithm (PAIA2) and a multi-stage optimisation procedure are introduced, which facilitate a systematic and integrated fuzzy knowledge extraction process and are able to fully describe the mechanical properties of the investigated alloy steels.

A novel numerical optimization algorithm inspired from garden balsam

TL;DR: The garden balsam optimization algorithm proposed in this paper incorporates two different types of search processes and has a mechanism to maintain population diversity and is compared with some known meta-heuristic search algorithms.

A local network neighbourhood artificial immune system

A.J. Graaff
TL;DR: This thesis proposes a new artificial immune model inspired by the network theory of immunology and differs from its network based predecessor models in its formation of artificial lymphocyte networks for data clustering.

On Stigmergically Controlling a Population of Heterogeneous Mobile Agents Using Cloning Resource

TL;DR: An on-demand population control mechanism for a heterogeneous set of mobile agents along with an underlying application for their deployment as service providers in a networked robotic system is described.

A Flow-based Multi-agent Data Exfiltration Detection Architecture for Ultra-low Latency Networks

TL;DR: This paper proposes a novel Multi-Agent Data Exfiltration Detector Architecture (MADEX), inspired by the mechanisms and features present in the human immune system, and addresses the detection of rootkits real-time in an agnostic way using an artificial immune system approach while it satisfies strict latency requirements.

Somatic generation of antibody diversity

TL;DR: In the genome of a germ-line cell, the genetic information for an immunoglobulin polypeptide chain is contained in multiple gene segments scattered along a chromosome which are assembled by recombination which leads to the formation of a complete gene.

A mathematical model illustrating the theory of turbulence

TL;DR: In this article, the application of statistical analysis and statistical mechanics to the problem of turbulent fluid motion has attracted much attention in recent years, and the authors investigated a complicated system of nonlinear equations, in order to find out enough about the properties of the solutions of these equations that insight can be obtained into the various patterns exhibited by the field and that data can be derived concerning the relative frequencies of these patterns in the hope that in this way a basis may be found for the calculation of important values.
