The immune system, adaptation, and machine learning

TLDR
A dynamical model for the immune system is described that is based on the network hypothesis of Jerne, and is simple enough to simulate on a computer, and has a strong similarity to an approach to learning and artificial intelligence introduced by Holland, called the classifier system.

Challenges for artificial immune systems

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that the field of Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) has reached an impass and argue that immune inspired algorithms, whilst having some degree of success, have been limited by the lack of theorectical advances, the adoption of a limited immune inspired approach and the limited application of AIS to hard problems.

Immune-inspired adaptive information filtering

TL;DR: Nootropia as mentioned in this paper is a user profiling model that has many properties in common with computational models of the immune system that have been based on Franscisco Varela's work.

Clonal selection algorithms for 6-DOF PID control of autonomous underwater vehicles

TL;DR: This work proposes to apply the Clonal Selection Algorithm to determine optimal combination of three gain coefficients, KP, KD, KI of the PID controller, and shows that the proposed technique provides better responses than the existing Ziegler-Nichols technique with respect to the settling time, overshoot and an affinity in submerging under water.

Dual Population Genetic Algorithm (GA) versus OpenMP GA for Multimodal Function Optimization

TL;DR: The experimentation results show that the performance of the OpenMP GA is remarkably superior to that of the SGA in terms of execution time and speed up.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Foundations of Immunocomputing

TL;DR: The key notions of the approach are the formal immune network (FIN) and the coding theory for machine learning and the training of FIN includes apoptosis and auto immunization both controlled by cytokines.

Somatic generation of antibody diversity

TL;DR: In the genome of a germ-line cell, the genetic information for an immunoglobulin polypeptide chain is contained in multiple gene segments scattered along a chromosome which are assembled by recombination which leads to the formation of a complete gene.

A mathematical model illustrating the theory of turbulence

TL;DR: In this article, the application of statistical analysis and statistical mechanics to the problem of turbulent fluid motion has attracted much attention in recent years, and the authors investigated a complicated system of nonlinear equations, in order to find out enough about the properties of the solutions of these equations that insight can be obtained into the various patterns exhibited by the field and that data can be derived concerning the relative frequencies of these patterns in the hope that in this way a basis may be found for the calculation of important values.
