Toward an experimental ecology of human development.
TLDR
In this paper, a broader approach to research in human development is proposed that focuses on the pro- gressive accommodation, throughout the life span, between the growing human organism and the changing environments in which it actually lives and grows.Abstract:
A broader approach to research in hu- j man development is proposed that focuses on the pro- \ gressive accommodation, throughout the life span, between the growing human organism and the changing environments in which it actually lives and grows. \ The latter include not only the immediate settings containing the developing person but also the larger social contexts, both formal and informal, in which these settings are embedded. In terms of method, the approach emphasizes the use of rigorousj^d^igned exp_erjments, both naturalistic and contrived, beginning in the early stages of the research process. The chang- ing relation between person and environment is con- ceived in systems terms. These systems properties are set forth in a series of propositions, each illus- trated by concrete research examples.read more

Factors Influencing College Aspirations of Rural West Virginia High School Students.
TL;DR: Galliher et al. as mentioned in this paper examined factors that influence rural West Virginia high school students' college attendance decisions and found that family and peer contexts emerged as more salient predictors of college aspirations for males while variables associated with individual academic preparation and external barriers to college attendance were most salient for females.

Psychological resilience in disadvantaged youth: A critical overview
J. Harvey,Paul Delfabbro +1 more
TL;DR: A critical review of research into the notion of psychological resilience and its implications for studies of disadvantaged young people is provided in this paper, where a number of significant conceptual and methodological challenges are examined, the most important of these being the difficulties associated with the operationalisation of resilience, the development of culturally relevant thresholds and the circularity inherent in commonly used definitions.

TL;DR: The present interpretation of construct validity is not "official" and deals with some areas where the Committee would probably not be unanimous, but the present writers are solely responsible for this attempt to explain the concept and elaborate its implications.
