Effect of isolated left bundle-branch block on biventricular volumes and ejection fraction: a cardiovascular magnetic resonance assessment.
Shadi Akhtari,Michael L Chuang,Michael L Chuang,Carol J Salton,Sophie Berg,Kraig V. Kissinger,Beth Goddu,Christopher J. O'Donnell,Christopher J. O'Donnell,Warren J. Manning +9 more
TL;DR: Compared LV and right ventricular (RV) volumes and EF in adults with an isolated LBBB to matched healthy controls and to population-derived normative values, using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging are compared.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic determinants of increased body mass index mediate the effect of smoking on increased risk for type 2 diabetes but not coronary artery disease.

O'Donnell,VA Million Veteran Program,VA Million Veteran Program,Marijana Vujkovic,Marijana Vujkovic,Benjamin F. Voight +24 more
TL;DR: The findings support a model whereby genetic determinants of smoking increase type 2 diabetes risk indirectly through their relationship with obesity, and smokers should be advised to stop smoking to limit type 1 diabetes and CAD risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spontaneous acute subdural hematoma complicating arachnoid cyst.
TL;DR: A case of sudden unexpected death in a middle-aged woman with a history of arachnoid cyst who had sudden spontaneous onset of severe headache that was rapidly followed by collapse and death is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimating Variable Returns to Scale Production Frontiers with Alternative Stochastic Assumptions
TL;DR: In this article, two stochastic production frontier models are formulated within the generalized production function framework popularized by Zellner and Revankar (Rev. Econ. Appl. 36 (1969) 241) and ZellNER and Ryu (J.V.
Journal ArticleDOI
PCSK9 loss of function is protective against extra-coronary atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in a large multi-ethnic cohort.
Aeron Small,Aeron Small,Jennifer E. Huffman,Derek Klarin,Julie Lynch,Julie Lynch,Themistocles L. Assimes,Themistocles L. Assimes,Scott L. DuVall,Scott L. DuVall,Yan V. Casas,Scott M. Damrauer,Scott M. Damrauer,VA Million Veteran Program +25 more
TL;DR: Genetically reduced PCSK9 function results in a reduction in risk of several important extra-coronary atherosclerotic phenotypes in addition to known effects on CAD and IS, including PAD and AAA.
