PHIBSS: Unified Scaling Relations of Gas Depletion Time and Molecular Gas Fractions
Linda J. Tacconi,Reinhard Genzel,Amélie Saintonge,Francoise Combes,Santiago García-Burillo,Roberto Neri,Alberto D. Bolatto,Thierry Contini,N. M. Förster Schreiber,Simon J. Lilly,Dieter Lutz,Stijn Wuyts,Gioacchino Accurso,Jérémie Boissier,Frédéric Boone,Nicolas Bouché,Frédéric Bournaud,Andreas Burkert,M. Carollo,Michael C. Cooper,Pierre Cox,Chiara Feruglio,Jonathan Freundlich,Jonathan Freundlich,Rodrigo Herrera-Camus,Stéphanie Juneau,Magdalena Lippa,Thorsten Naab,Alvio Renzini,P. Salome,Amiel Sternberg,Ken-ichi Tadaki,H. Übler,Fabian Walter,Benjamin J. Weiner,Achim Weiss +35 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the scaling relation between galaxy-integrated molecular gas masses, stellar masses, and star formation rates (SFRs), in the framework of the star formation main sequence (MS), with the main goal of testing for possible systematic effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
The spitzer local volume legacy: survey description and infrared photometry
Daniel A. Dale,S. A. Cohen,L. C. Johnson,L. C. Johnson,Micah D. Schuster,Daniela Calzetti,Charles W. Engelbracht,A. Gil de Paz,R. C. Kennicutt,R. C. Kennicutt,Janice C. Lee,Ayesha Begum,M. Block,Julianne J. Dalcanton,Jose G. Funes,Karl D. Gordon,Benjamin D. Johnson,A. R. Marble,Shoko Sakai,Evan D. Skillman,L. van Zee,Fabian Walter,Daniel R. Weisz,Benjamin F. Williams,S. Y. Wu,Y. Wu +25 more
TL;DR: The Local Volume Legacy (LVL) survey as discussed by the authors is a collection of low-luminosity galaxies with a large spread in mid-infrared colors, likely due to the conspicuous deficiency of 8 μm polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon emission from low-metallicity, low-lightosity galaxies, exploiting the highest extragalactic spatial resolution achievable with Spitzer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of H-alpha and UV Star Formation Rates in the Local Volume: Systematic Discrepancies for Dwarf Galaxies
Janice C. Lee,Armando Gil de Paz,Christy Tremonti,Robert C. Kennicutt,Samir Salim,Matt Bothwell,Daniela Calzetti,Julianne J. Dalcanton,Daniel A. Dale,Chad Engelbracht,G S J Jose Funes,Benjamin D. Johnson,Shoko Sakai,Evan D. Skillman,Liese van Zee,Fabian Walter,Daniel R. Weisz +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the consistency between star formation rates (SFRs) inferred from the far ultraviolet (FUV) nonionizing continuum and H-alpha nebular emission, assuming standard conversion recipes in which the SFR scales linearly with luminosity at a given wavelength.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extremely Inefficient Star Formation in the Outer Disks of Nearby Galaxies
Frank Bigiel,Frank Bigiel,Adam Leroy,Adam Leroy,Fabian Walter,Leo Blitz,Elias Brinks,W. J. G. de Blok,Barry F. Madore +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the relationship between atomic hydrogen (Hi) and far-ultraviolet (FUV) emission outside the optical radius (r25 )i n 17 spiral and 5 dwarf galaxies was studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Star formation in NGC 5194 (M51a): The Panchromatic view from GALEX to Spitzer
Daniela Calzetti,Robert C. Kennicutt,Luciana Bianchi,David A. Thilker,Daniel A. Dale,Charles W. Engelbracht,Claus Leitherer,Martin Meyer,M. Sosey,Max Mutchler,Michael W. Regan,Michele D. Thornley,Lee Armus,George J. Bendo,Samuel Boissier,A. Boselli,Bruce T. Draine,Karl D. Gordon,George Helou,David Hollenbach,Lisa J. Kewley,Barry F. Madore,D. C. Martin,Eric J. Murphy,George H. Rieke,M. J. Rieke,H. Roussel,Kartik Sheth,Jd Smith,Fabian Walter,B. A. White,Sukyoung K. Yi,Nick Scoville,M. Polletta,D. J. Lindler +34 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used far ultraviolet to far infrared images of the nearby galaxy NGC5194, from Spitzer, GALEX, Hubble Space Telescope and ground-based data, to investigate local and global star formation, and the impact of dust extinction in HII-emitting knots.
