TL;DR: In this article, a non-crosslinked crystallized polymer or polymer blending coating is disclosed for articles that come into contact with bodily fluids, which is stable in the presence of water at temperatures of up to about 60° C. when in the crystalline state.
Abstract: A non-crosslinked crystallized polymer or polymer blending coating is disclosed for articles that come into contact with bodily fluids. The polymer or polymer blend to be used is crystallizable and is stable in the presence of water at temperatures of up to about 60° C. when in the crystalline state. The polymer or polymer blend is dissolved in a solvent, such as water or dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and is coated on the article. The polymer coating is then crystallized, generally by heat treatment, providing both toughness and increased adherence of the coating to the article without ready dissolution when the article comes into contact with fluids.

TL;DR: In this paper, a traffic control preemption system uses data received from a global positioning system (GPS) to determine whether a vehicle issuing a preemption request is within an allowed approach of an intersection.
Abstract: A traffic control preemption system uses data received from a global positioning system (GPS) to determine whether a vehicle issuing a preemption request is within an allowed approach of an intersection. GPS signals are received and processed by the vehicle module to generate vehicle data, including the vehicle's position, heading and velocity. The vehicle data is transmitted via radio transmission or some other medium. Each intersection has an associated intersection module which, if within range of the vehicle's transmitting equipment, compares the received vehicle data with a preprogrammed map of allowed approaches to the intersection. If the vehicle data sufficiently matches the map of allowed approaches, the vehicle's preemption request is forwarded to the intersection controller to appropriately control the phase of the traffic signal at the intersection.

TL;DR: In this article, a set of cube-corner retroreflective articles having improved angularity along multiple viewing planes are provided. The articles are rotated 180° with respect to one another, the three lateral mutually perpendicular faces of the elements being defined at their bases by linear edges that lie in a common plane, and the optical axes being tilted toward one another.
Abstract: Cube-corner retroreflective articles having improved angularity along multiple viewing planes are provided. The articles comprise at least one matched pair of cube-corner retroreflective elements which are rotated 180° with respect to one another, the three lateral mutually perpendicular faces of the elements being defined at their bases by linear edges that lie in a common plane, and the optical axes of the elements being tilted toward one another.

TL;DR: In this article, the conformation and stereochemical configuration of the chains were examined with considerable discrimination; degrees of regularity, etc. block sizes, etc appear to be determinable.
Abstract: Spectra of methyl methacrylate polymers in chlorofornm solution at 90° show three α-methyl proton peaks. Measurements of their areas in spectra of polymers prepared with free radical and anionic initiators indicate that these may be attributed to (1) iso- tactic sequences (ddd or lll), (2) syndiotactic sequences (ldl or dld), and (3) heterotactic sequences (ldd, dll, ddl, or lld). The conformation and stereochemical configuration of the chains may thus be examined with considerable discrimination; degrees of regularity. block sizes, etc. appear to be determinable. Free radical polymers of methyl methacrylate are found to be predominantly syndiotactic, whereas those produced with anionic initiators. such as n-butyllithium, are shown to be predominantly isotactic, in agreement with the findings of others. The backbone methylene resonance also shows striking changes with chain stereochemical configuration, such as to provide absolute, independent confirmation of the assigned structures.
