A Task Taxonomy for Temporal Graph Visualisation

Abstract: By extending and instantiating an existing formal task framework, we define a task taxonomy and task design space for temporal graph visualisation. We discuss the process involved in their generation, and describe how the design space can be ‘sliced and diced’ into multiple overlapping task categories, requiring distinct visual techniques for their support. The approach addresses deficiencies in the task literature, offering domain independence, greater task coverage, and unambiguous task specification. The taxonomy and design space capture tasks for temporal graphs, and also static graphs, multivariate graphs, and graph comparison, and will be of value in the design and evaluation of temporal graph visualisation systems.

Sport science relevance and application: Perceptions of UK coaches

Abstract: While sport science can have significant and positive impact on coaches and athletes, there is still a general consensus that the transfer of sport science knowledge to coaching is poor. Given this apparent dilemma, this study investigated the perceptions of sport science from coaches across four different sports (football, rugby league, curling and judo) across three different levels (elite, developmental and novice). Specifically, 58 coaches (19 football; 21 rugby league; 9 curling; 9 judo) drawn evenly from novice, developmental and elite groups agreed to take part and were interviewed. Three key features emerged from the analysis 1) Practical application and relevance 2) Integration and access, 3) Language. In short, there was significant variability in the extent to which sport science was considered relevant and to whom, although interestingly this was not strongly related to coaching level. “Uncharted Waters”: The Experience of Parents of Young People With Mental Health Problems:

Abstract: In this article, the author discusses the experiences of parents of young people with mental health problems and their relations with health care professionals. She conducted qualitative interviews with 25 parents whose teenage child had a diagnosed psychiatric condition. She argues that the experiences of parent-carers can best be understood in the context of the particular relationships involved. The author contextualizes the meanings parents give to care received in wider understandings of parenting and the parental caregiving role. She argues that the parents were deskilled by the condition and by the medical profession. At the same time, parents engaged in a range of actions through which they were reskilled and their parental caregiving role was reestablished.
