TL;DR: Its low molecular weight and stable production rate indicate that the blood concentration of cystatin C is determined mainly by glomerular filtration, less altered by nonrenal factors than is the production of creatinine.
Abstract: Cystatin C has recently been shown to be an accurate marker of glomerular filtration rate with advantages over serum creatinine (1 , 2) . Cystatin C, a potent inhibitor of cysteine proteases, is found mainly in extracellular fluids such as blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and seminal plasma. Its low molecular weight and stable production rate indicate that the blood concentration of cystatin C is determined mainly by glomerular filtration. The production rate of cystatin C is less altered by nonrenal factors than is the production of creatinine, and it has been reported that circulating cystatin C concentrations are not affected by inflammatory conditions or malignancy …

TL;DR: The most recent developments in metal targeted strategies for AD are discussed using, as useful examples, clioquinol, curcumin, and epigallocatechin, and the future perspectives will also be outlined as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A close association between brain metal dishomeostasis and the onset and/or progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been clearly established in a number of studies, although the underlying biochemical mechanisms remain obscure. This observation renders chelation therapy an attractive pharmacological option for the treatment of this disease. However, a number of requirements must be fulfilled in order to adapt chelation therapy to AD so that the term "metal targeted strategies" seems now more appropriate. Indeed, brain metal redistribution rather than brain metal scavenging and removal is the major goal of this type of intervention. The most recent developments in metal targeted strategies for AD will be discussed using, as useful examples, clioquinol, curcumin, and epigallocatechin, and the future perspectives will also be outlined.

TL;DR: A rather richer, dynamical role of reverse micelles, with potential significance in the research and design of complex, self-assembly synthesis pathways, as well as possible adoption of their application as an aspect of biomimetic approach is suggested herein.
