TL;DR: A virus from fish with lymphocystis disease was isolated in fish cell cultures and pathognomonic lymphocyStis cells were produced in vitro in each transfer.
Abstract: A virus from fish with lymphocystis disease was isolated in fish cell cultures. Eleven serial transfers were made and the pathognomonic lymphocystis cells were produced in vitro in each transfer. Fish inoculated with 6th- and 9th-passage material developed the disease, and virus was reisolated front them.

01 Jan 1991TL;DR: The failure of a mass of soil in a downward and outward movement of a slope is called a slide or slope failure as mentioned in this paper, and it is usually caused by excavation, by undercutting the foot of an existing slope, by a gradual disintegration of the structure of the soil, by an increase of the pore water pressure in a few exceptionally permeable layers.
Abstract: The failure of a mass of soil in a downward and outward movement of a slope is called a slide or slope failure. Slides occur in almost every conceivable manner, slowly or suddenly, and with or without any apparent provocation. They are usually caused by excavation, by undercutting the foot of an existing slope, by a gradual disintegration of the structure of the soil, by an increase of the pore water pressure in a few exceptionally permeable layers, or by a shock that liquefies the soil.

07 Nov 2004TL;DR: It is concluded that existing systems need to place a greater emphasis on scalability in relation to use in large OWL applications.
Abstract: In this paper, we present an evaluation of four knowledge base systems (KBS) with respect to use in large OWL applications. To our knowledge, no experiment has been done with the scale of data used here. The smallest dataset used consists of 15 OWL files totaling 8MB, while the largest dataset consists of 999 files totaling 583MB. We evaluated two memory-based systems (OWL Jess KB and memory-based Sesame) and two systems with persistent storage (database-based Sesame and DLDB-OWL). We describe how we have performed the evaluation and what factors we have considered in it. We show the results of the experiment and discuss the performance of each system. In particular, we have concluded that existing systems need to place a greater emphasis on scalability.

TL;DR: In this article, a strain-compensated InGaN-AlGaN quantum well (QW) structure consisting of thin tensile-strained AlGaN barriers surrounding the QW was investigated as improved active regions for lasers and light emitting diodes.
Abstract: Strain-compensated InGaN-AlGaN quantum wells (QW) are investigated as improved active regions for lasers and light emitting diodes. The strain-compensated QW structure consists of thin tensile-strained AlGaN barriers surrounding the InGaN QW. The band structure was calculated by using a self-consistent 6-band kmiddotp formalism, taking into account valence band mixing, strain effect, spontaneous and piezoelectric polarizations, as well as the carrier screening effect. The spontaneous emission and gain properties were analyzed for strain-compensated InGaN-AlGaN QW structures with indium contents of 28%, 22%, and 15% for lasers (light-emitting diodes) emitting at 480 (500), 440 (450), and 405 nm (415 nm) spectral regimes, respectively. The spontaneous emission spectra show significant improvement of the radiative emission for strain-compensated QW for all three structures compared to the corresponding conventional InGaN QW, which indicates the enhanced radiative efficiency for light emitting diodes. Our studies show the improvement of the optical gain and reduction of the threshold current density from the use of strain-compensated InGaN-AlGaN QW as active regions for diode lasers.
