Abstract: The overall purpose of this article is to present a review of the literature that identifies the salient ethical guidelines related to the practice of supervision and to discuss the results of a study that examined supervisor ethical practices. In terms of our investigation, we examined supervisee perceptions of their supervisors’ adherence to ethical guidelines, supervisee reactions to ethical violations, and the relationships among supervisor ethical behaviors, the supervisory working alliance, and supervisee satisfaction. The results indicated that 51% of the 151 beginning to intern-level supervisees sampled reported at least one ethical violation by their supervisors. The most frequently violated guidelines involved adequate performance evaluation, confidentiality issues relevant to supervision, and ability to work with alternative perspectives. Abstract: Automatically assigning relevant text keywords to images is an important problem. Many algorithms have been proposed in the past decade and achieved good performance. Efforts have focused upon model representations of keywords, but properties of features have not been well investigated. In most cases, a group of features is preselected, yet important feature properties are not well used to select features. In this paper, we introduce a regularization based feature selection algorithm to leverage both the sparsity and clustering properties of features, and incorporate it into the image annotation task. A novel approach is also proposed to iteratively obtain similar and dissimilar pairs from both the keyword similarity and the relevance feedback. Thus keyword similarity is modeled in the annotation framework. Numerous experiments are designed to compare the performance between features, feature combinations and regularization based feature selection methods applied on the image annotation task, which gives insight into the properties of features in the image annotation task. The experimental results demonstrate that the group sparsity based method is more accurate and stable than others.

Abstract: The electrostatic coupling between singled-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) networks/arrays and planar gate electrodes in thin-film transistors (TFTs) is analyzed both in the quantum limit with an analytical model and in the classical limit with finite-element modeling. The computed capacitance depends on both the thickness of the gate dielectric and the average spacing between the tubes, with some dependence on the distribution of these spacings. Experiments on transistors that use submonolayer, random networks of SWCNTs verify certain aspects of these calculations. The results are important for the development of networks or arrays of nanotubes as active layers in TFTs and other electronic devices.

Abstract: Quantum cascade lasers can operate at terahertz frequencies because they use intraband, rather than interband, transitions in semiconductor nanostructures. However, they seemed to have reached a ceiling in terms of maximum operating temperature. This trend has now been broken with the introduction of a new scheme for charge injection.
