10 May 1990TL;DR: In this paper, a calcium carbonate scale is controlled by treating calcium carbonates containing waters with a predominantly phosphinate containing composition where has as its major ingredient more than 32 mole percent of a phosphinicosuccinic acid oligomer having the probable structural formula.
Abstract: Calcium carbonate scale is controlled by treating calcium carbonate containing waters with a predominantly phosphinate containing composition where has as its major ingredient more than 32 mole percent of a phosphinicosuccinic acid oligomer having the probable structural formula . ##STR1## M is H, Na, K, NH4, or mixtures thereof; and m and n are either 0 or a small whole number with proviso that either m or n is a small whole number and the sum of m plus n is greater than 2.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for concentrating coal tailings and for dewatering coal products employing a copolymer of diallyldimethlylammonium halide and a vinyl alkoxysilane, preferably a Copolymer Coagulant of DLDIMET and vinyl Synthetic Synthesis Synthesis (VSS) is presented.
Abstract: A method for concentrating coal tailings and for dewatering coal products employing a copolymer of diallyldimethlylammonium halide and a vinyl alkoxysilane, preferably a copolymer of diallyldimethylammonium chloride and vinyltrimethoxysilane as a coagulant. The method for concentrating coal tailings comprises steps of: feeding the coal tailings to a thickener; treating the coal tailings with the coagulant, discharging substantially concentrated tailing; and withdrawing substantially clarified liquid from the thickener. A method for dewatering coal products containing water comprising the steps of: feeding the clean coal containing water to a twin belt filter press; treating said coal with an effective amount of a copolymer coagulant of diallyldimethylammonium halide and vinyl alkoxysilane, preferably diallyldimethylammonium chloride and vinyl trimethoxysilane is also disclosed. The method encompasses removing water from the coal product through the addition of the subject polymer coagulant; removing the dewatered clean coal product from the filter; and withdrawing the recycled water through the filter.

26 Apr 1965TL;DR: In this paper, aqueous stable silica sols containing at least 40 percent by weight of silica in the form of large, discrete, spherical particles having a weight-average particle diameter of from 45 to 100 millimicrons are presented.
Abstract: Method for preparing aqueous stable silica sols containing at least 40 percent by weight of silica in the form of large, discrete, spherical particles having a weight-average particle diameter of from 45 to 100 millimicrons. An aqueous acid silica sol feed is added at a critical maximum feed rate to an aqueous alkaline silica sol containing particles having a weight-average diameter of from about 10 to 30 millimicrons while the aqueous liquid phase thereof is continuously evaporated. The pH of the alkaline sol during the whole of the addition is maintained at a value of at least 7.0.
