20 Jan 2005TL;DR: In this article, an interchangeable tip-open-cell fluorometer was proposed for detecting fluorescent signals emitted by one or more fluorophores from samples from a natural or industrial water system.
Abstract: Described and claimed is an interchangeable tip-open cell fluorometer comprising a housing and a fluorometric probe tip interchangeably connected to the housing, the probe tip including a probe tip housing defining an open cell and enclosing a probe optical arrangement, the probe optical arrangement including an excitation source and a fluorescence detector wherein the excitation source is aimed directly into the fluorescence detector such that a sample can be fluorometrically detected. Also claimed is a method of using this interchangeable tip-open cell fluorometer for detecting fluorescent signals emitted by one or more fluorophores from samples from a natural or industrial water system. The fluorometer, when coupled with a controller, is capable of monitoring and optionally controlling an industrial process or system.

24 Dec 1984TL;DR: Water-soluble polymers can be used with other vinyl monomers to form reactive polymers which are reactive with cellulosic substrates to obtain drastically improved strength when applied in paper manufacture as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: OF THE DISCLOSURE Water-soluble monomers and water-soluble polymers derived therefrom are disclosed. These materials can be used with other vinyl monomers to form water-soluble polymers which are reactive with cellulosic substrates to obtain drastically improved strength, particularly when applied in paper manufacture. The polymers contain at least two mole percent of a monomer represented by the chemical structure: wherein R is -H, -CH3, or -C2H5; and A is 0, or N(R1); and B is CH2, CH2CH2O, ?CH2?n N(R1) (CH2?m, ;and ;and wherein R1 is -H, -CH3, -C2H5, (CH2CH2O)nH, or (B)qD, and wherein q is from 1-6, except when B contains nitrogen in which case q is always one; and wherein R2 is -H, -CH3, -C2H5, or (CH2CH2O)nH; and wherein R3 is
