26 Jul 1993TL;DR: In this article, a probe for selective exposure to fresh water samples of the system is connected to an analyzer that operates the probe and measures agent concentration by a chronoamperometry technique.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for electrochemical monitoring of oxidizing agents, such as nitrite, or reducing agents in a water system and for controlling concentration levels for protecting surfaces exposed to the water The apparatus includes a probe for selective exposure to fresh water samples of the system The probe is connected to an analyzer that operates the probe and measures agent concentration by a chronoamperometry technique A controller selectively feeds an agent to the water system in accordance with a set point to maintain a desired concentration level

09 Aug 1999TL;DR: In this article, the use of non-sulfur-containing compounds as collectors in the froth flotation of certain mineral sulfide and metallic compounds was proposed, which can be used singularly, in combinations and in mixtures with known commercial sulfur containing collectors.
Abstract: This invention is directed to the use of non-sulfur containing compounds as collectors in the froth flotation of certain mineral sulfide and metallic compounds. These non-sulfur-containing compounds may be from natural sources, such as vegetable oils, or synthesized commercial sources. These non-sulfide collectors can be used singularly, in combinations, and in mixtures with known commercial sulfur containing collectors. These non-sulfur-containing collectors are compatible with common frothers.

TL;DR: Temperature tolerance, avoidance, and preference of a freshwater sculpin, Cottus cognatus gracilis, are described for fish acclimated to constant temperatures ranging from 5 to 20 C, with the ultimate upper lethal temperature approximately 26.5 C.
Abstract: Temperature tolerance, avoidance, and preference of a freshwater sculpin, Cottus cognatus gracilis, are described for fish acclimated to constant temperatures ranging from 5 to 20 C. Critical thermal maxima varied from 23.5 C for fish acclimated to 5 C, to 29.4 C for fish acclimated to 20 C. Incipient upper lethal temperatures ranged from 18.5 C to 23.5 C. The ultimate upper lethal temperature was approximately 26.5 C. Avoidance temperatures ranged from 15.2 C at 5 C to 21.5 C at 15 C. Preferred temperatures for 5 C- and 15 C-acclimated fish were 9 and 12 C, respectively, and the final preferendum was about 10 C.

13 Jul 1981TL;DR: An apparatus for safely slug feeding hazardous chemicals from conventional 55 gallon drums comprising a calibrated dip tube adapted to be moved in an up and down liquidtight relationship through a first bung hole of the drum, a feed line adapted to remove liquid through the calibrated dip tubes, check valve means adapted to prevent the flow of liquid into the drum and vacuum-producing means to withdraw fluid from the drum through the dip tube, feed line, and check valve as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: An apparatus for safely slug feeding hazardous chemicals from conventional 55 gallon drums comprising a calibrated dip tube adapted to be moved in an up and down liquid-tight relationship through a first bung hole of the drum, a feed line adapted to remove liquid through the calibrated dip tube, check valve means adapted to prevent the flow of liquid into the drum, vacuum-producing means adapted to withdraw fluid from the drum through the dip tube, feed line, and check valve, and cleaning means adapted to be partially positioned within the drum through a second bung opening, said cleaning means including a spray nozzle positioned within the drum and air ventilation means outside of the drum, said spray means being adapted to receive a source of cleaning fluid under pressure. The dip tube may be fitted with a means for preventing its upward movement.
