01 Jan 1997TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a new asphaltene treatment program that will prevent asphalte flocculation and deposition onto the near-well bore formation and throughout the production system thus preventing formation damage and system failure.
Abstract: Deposition of asphaltenes in oil wells, pumps, flowlines, pipelines and production facilities can reduce well productivity, damage pumps, restrict or plug flowlines and pipelines and foul production handling facilities. The economic impact of this problem can be very detrimental. Until recently, the conventional way to treat asphaltene deposition was through remediation. Remediation methods include solvent soaks with aromatic solvents and/or aromatic solvents blended nith dispersants and physical removal such as wirelining, pigging, hydroblasting, and drilling. These treatment methods attack the problem after it occurs. Until now, there has not been an economical method to prevent the deposition of asphaltenes. This paper describes the development of a new asphaltene treatment program that will prevent asphaltene flocculation and deposition onto the near-well bore formation and throughout the production system thus preventing formation damage and system failure.

05 Oct 1994TL;DR: In this article, a strength resin polymer for papermaking that has pendant alpha-hydroxy acetal substituents to (N-alkyl)(C1-2 alkyl)acrylamide mer units was provided.
Abstract: There is provided a strength resin polymer for papermaking that has pendant alpha-hydroxy acetal substituents to (N-alkyl)(C1-2 alkyl)acrylamide mer units. There also is provided a process for preparation of such resin polymer by adduction of a pre-existing polymer, or the monomer precursors thereto, with an acetal-aldehyde reactant under alkaline conditions. There is provided such strength resin polymer in the form of a fluid liquid system, for instance a fluid solution or a fluid oil-continuous water-in-oil emulsion, particularly when such a system has a high concentration of resin polymer. There is provided activated polymer versions of certain of such resin polymers and paper compositions containing such activated polymer. There is also provided papermaking processes including the step of activating such resin polymer.

13 Dec 1973TL;DR: In this article, a method and composition for reducing the amount of and softening silicate scale formation in automobile and diesel coolant systems where a silicate containing anti-corrosion formula is used which comprises adding to said formula an effective amount of a polymeric dispersant which is a water-soluble carboxylic acid polymer selected from a vinyl addition polymer and a carboxymethyl cellulose.
Abstract: A method and composition for reducing the amount of and softening silicate scale formation in automobile and diesel coolant systems where a silicate containing anti-corrosion formula is used which comprises adding to said formula an effective amount of a polymeric dispersant which is a water-soluble carboxylic acid polymer selected from a vinyl addition polymer and a carboxymethyl cellulose. The addition of polymeric dispersants to silicate containing corrosion inhibition formula such as the boron-nitrite type ameliorates or changes the character of the crystalline precipitate to a softer amorphous type and enables the utilization of anti-corrosion formulas at dosages of from about 2,000 up to 20,000 ppm without platingout side effects. Specially preferred dispersants are maleic anhydride copolymers and carboxymethyl cellulose. The advantages of the present invention may be realized in mixed precipitates containing silicate and also anions such as carbonate, phosphate, sulfate, etc., in the presence of alkaline earth cations.
