TL;DR: The authors examined Tinto's (1975) model of student attrition, which suggests that student's dropout decisions are social and academic worlds, and found that the model does not provide an acceptable description of the data, and suggested that interactionist and ethnographic approaches may result in a more appropriate theoretical framework.
Abstract: This study examined Tinto's (1975) model of student attrition, which suggests that student's dropout decisions are social and academic worlds. The model was tested with path analysis using LISREL8 software (Joreskog & Sorbom, 1993a) using maximum likelihood estimation. Findings were that the model does not provide an acceptable description of the data. The findings were based on a global test of the model as a whole, as well as tests of individual paths within the model. Prior investigations into the model have been largely supportive, and reasons are considered for the disparity between previous and current findings. It is suggested that Tinto's perspective may not be the most appropriate for attrition research. Instead it is contended that interactionist and ethnographic approaches may result in a more appropriate theoretical framework.

TL;DR: Administration of active TG2 to two different in vitro angiogenesis assays resulted in the accumulation of a complex extracellular matrix leading to the suppression of endothelial tube formation without causing cell death, leading to a new approach to solid tumor therapy.
Abstract: Administration of active TG2 to two different in vitro angiogenesis assays resulted in the accumulation of a complex extracellular matrix (ECM) leading to the suppression of endothelial tube formation without causing cell death. Matrix accumulation was accompanied by a decreased rate of ECM turnover, with increased resistance to matrix metalloproteinase-1. Intratumor injection of TG2 into mice bearing CT26 colon carcinoma tumors demonstrated a reduction in tumor growth, and in some cases tumor regression. In TG2 knockout mice, tumor progression was increased and survival rate reduced compared to wild-type mice. In wild-type mice, an increased presence of TG2 was detectable in the host tissue around the tumor. Analysis of CT26 tumors injected with TG2 revealed fibrotic-like tissue containing increased collagen, TG2-mediated crosslink and reduced organized vasculature. TG2-mediated modulation of cell behavior via changes in the ECM may provide a new approach to solid tumor therapy.

TL;DR: In this paper, a 3-6-3-1 arrangement was used to predict heat transfer coefficients from a given set of experimentally obtained conditions, with convergence improving directly with both the global learning rates and those of individual layers.
