Abstract: The SOHO Ultraviolet Coronagraph Spectrometer (UVCS/SOHO) is composed of three reflecting telescopes with external and internal occultation and a spectrometer assembly consisting of two toric grating spectrometers and a visible light polarimeter. The purpose of the UVCS instrument is to provide a body of data that can be used to address a broad range of scientific questions regarding the nature of the solar corona and the generation of the solar wind. The primary scientific goals are the following: to locate and characterize the coronal source regions of the solar wind, to identify and understand the dominant physical processes that accelerate the solar wind, to understand how the coronal plasma is heated in solar wind acceleration regions, and to increase the knowledge of coronal phenomena that control the physical properties of the solar wind as determined by in situ measurements. To progress toward these goals, the UVCS will perform ultraviolet spectroscopy and visible polarimetry to be combined with plasma diagnostic analysis techniques to provide detailed empirical descriptions of the extended solar corona from the coronal base to a heliocentric height of 12 solar radii.

Abstract: The accuracy of the Global Positioning System (GPS) as an instrument for measuring the integrated water vapor content of the atmosphere has been evaluated by comparison with concurrent observations made over a 14-day period by radiosonde, microwave water vapor radiometer (WVR), and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) The Vaisala RS-80 A-HUMICAP radiosondes required a correction to the relative humidity readings (provided by Vaisala) to account for packaging contamination; the WVR data required a correction in order to be consistent with the wet refractivity formulation of the VLBI, GPS, and radiosondes The best agreement of zenith wet delay (ZWD) among the collocated WVR, radiosondes, VLBI, and GPS was for minimum elevations of the GPS measurements below 10° After corrections were applied to the WVR and radiosonde measurements, WVR, GPS, and VLBI (with 5° minimum elevation angle cutoff) agreed within ∼6 mm of ZWD [1 mm of precipitable water vapor (PWV)] when the differences were averaged,

Abstract: Simultaneous localization and mapping SLAM in unknown GPS-denied environments is a major challenge for researchers in the field of mobile robotics. Many solutions for single-robot SLAM exist; however, moving to a platform of multiple robots adds many challenges to the existing problems. This paper reviews state-of-the-art multiple-robot systems, with a major focus on multiple-robot SLAM. Various issues and problems in multiple-robot SLAM are introduced, current solutions for these problems are reviewed, and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed.

Abstract: Purpose – Lean and Six Sigma are the two most important continuous improvement (CI) methodologies for achieving operational and service excellence in any organization. The purpose of this paper is to explain how lean compares to the Six Sigma and outline the benefits for integrating them. Also, this paper discusses the existing models that describe how Six Sigma and lean fit together. A new detailed description for integrating Six Sigma and lean is developed to provide an improved approach for CI.Design/methodology/approach – The following research included proposals and discussion, which were mainly based on the authors' own findings and experience, in addition to a literature‐based review of some of the most common and traditional lean and Six Sigma models.Findings – The paper proposes a new lean Six Sigma (LSS) approach and provides a detailed description of its phases.
