Abstract: We use the COBE Differential Microwave Radiometers (DMR) 4 yr sky maps to model Galactic microwave emission at high latitudes (|b| > 20°). Cross-correlation of the DMR maps with Galactic template maps detects fluctuations in the high-latitude microwave sky brightness with the angular variation of the DIRBE far-infrared dust maps and a frequency dependence consistent with a superposition of dust and free-free emission. We find no significant correlations between the DMR maps and various synchrotron templates. On the largest angular scales (e.g., quadrupole), Galactic emission is comparable in amplitude to the anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The CMB quadrupole amplitude, after correction for Galactic emission, has amplitude Qrms = 10.7 μK with random uncertainty 3.6 μK and systematic uncertainty 7.1 μK from uncertainty in our knowledge of Galactic microwave emission.

It elaborates on the design considerations for the beam as a whole and for individual elements. The most important design details of individual components are described. Beam monitoring systems and procedures, including the tuning and alignment of the beam and NuMI long-term performance, are also discussed.

Abstract: We apply rough set methods and boolean reasoning for knowledge discovery from decision tables. It is not always possible to extract general laws from experimental data by computing first all reducts [12] of a decision table and next decision rules on the basis of these reducts. We investigate a problem how information about the reduct set changes in a random sampling process of a given decision table could be used to generate these laws. The reducts stable in the process of decision table sampling are called dynamic reducts. Dynamic reducts define the set of attributes called the dynamic core. This is the set of attributes included in all dynamic reducts. The set of decision rules can be computed from the dynamic core or from the best dynamic reducts. We report the results of experiments with different data sets, e.g. market data, medical data, textures and handwritten digits. The results are showing that dynamic reducts can help to extract laws from decision tables.

Abstract: Classical simulations of protein flexibility remain computationally expensive, especially for large proteins. A few years ago, we developed a fast method for predicting protein structure fluctuations that uses a single protein model as the input. The method has been made available as the CABS-flex web server and applied in numerous studies of protein structure-function relationships. Here, we present a major update of the CABS-flex web server to version 2.0. The new features include: extension of the method to significantly larger and multimeric proteins, customizable distance restraints and simulation parameters, contact maps and a new, enhanced web server interface. Abstract: This critical review is dedicated to the anion complexation chemistry of amide- and urea-functionalized (benzo)pyrroles, such as pyrroles, indoles, carbazoles, isoindoles, naphthalenodipyrroles and benzodipyrroles. It provides a comprehensive overview of these simple and neutral anion sensors from the first examples up to very recent studies. There is a discussion of a gradual progress made over time, often based on careful analysis of the properties of former generations that have subsequently led to obtaining excellent effectivities and selectivities. The influence of these species on other fields of chemistry and their applications there are also discussed (57 references).
