TL;DR: In this article, the main theoretical and experimental results on THz detection by FETs in the context of their possible application for THz imaging are presented, where resonant and gate voltage tunable detection related to plasma waves resonances is observed.
Abstract: Resonant frequencies of the two-dimensional plasma in FETs increase with the reduction of the channel dimensions and can reach the THz range for sub-micron gate lengths. Nonlinear properties of the electron plasma in the transistor channel can be used for the detection and mixing of THz frequencies. At cryogenic temperatures resonant and gate voltage tunable detection related to plasma waves resonances is observed. At room temperature, when plasma oscillations are overdamped, the FET can operate as an efficient broadband THz detector. We present the main theoretical and experimental results on THz detection by FETs in the context of their possible application for THz imaging.

Abstract: The steady-state scattering function for driven diffusive systems with a single conserved density is investigated in view of the intrinsically faster, as compared to the predictions of an ordinary diffusion law, spreading of density fluctuations observed in stationary driven diffusive systems at low dimensionality, and, consequently, the divergence of excess noise for small frequencies. It is found that d = 2 is the borderline dimension with marginally nondiffusive behavior; for d larger than 2 the spread is diffusive with anisotropic long-time-tail corrections. The derivations presented are confirmed by Monte Carlo simulation results for a driven hard-core lattice gas.

Abstract: An alternative version of the theory of multiplicative unitaries is presented. Instead of the original regularity condition of Baaj and Skandalis we formulate another condition selecting manageable multiplicative unitaries. The manageability is the property of multiplicative unitaries coming from the quantum group theory. For manageable multiplicative unitaries we reproduce all the essential results of the original paper of Baaj and Skandalis and much more. In particular the existence of the antipode and its polar decomposition is shown.

Abstract: High-precision analyses of supersymmetry parameters aim at reconstructing the fundamental supersymmetric theory and its breaking mechanism. A well defined theoretical framework is needed when higher-order corrections are included. We propose such a scheme, Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis SPA, based on a consistent set of conventions and input parameters. A repository for computer programs is provided which connect parameters in different schemes and relate the Lagrangian parameters to physical observables at LHC and high energy e(+)e(-) linear collider experiments, i.e., masses, mixings, decay widths and production cross sections for supersymmetric particles. In addition, programs for calculating high-precision low energy observables, the density of cold dark matter (CDM) in the universe as well as the cross sections for CDM search experiments are included. The SPA scheme still requires extended efforts on both the theoretical and experimental side before data can be evaluated in the future at the level of the desired precision. We take here an initial step of testing the SPA scheme by applying the techniques involved to a specific supersymmetry reference point.

Abstract: Climate models predict an increase in the intensity and frequency of drought episodes in the Northern Hemisphere. Among terrestrial ecosystems, forests will be profoundly impacted by drier climatic conditions, with drastic consequences for the functions and services they supply. Simultaneously, biodiversity is known to support a wide range of forest ecosystem functions and services. However, whether biodiversity also improves the resistance of these ecosystems to drought remains unclear. We compared soil drought exposure levels in a total of 160 forest stands within five major forest types across Europe along a gradient of tree species diversity. We assessed soil drought exposure in each forest stand by calculating the stand-level increase in carbon isotope composition of late wood from a wet to a dry year (Δδ(13)CS). Δδ(13)CS exhibited a negative linear relationship with tree species diversity in two forest types, suggesting that species interactions in these forests diminished the drought exposure of the ecosystem. However, the other three forest types were unaffected by tree species diversity. We conclude that higher diversity enhances resistance to drought events only in drought-prone environments. Managing forest ecosystems for high tree species diversity does not necessarily assure improved adaptability to the more severe and frequent drought events predicted for the future.
