TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the application of unsupervised forensic testing of novel psychoactive substances (NPSs) for forensic testing/analysis techniques, and explore their application in the field of forensic analysis.

High speed precision weighing of pharmaceutical capsules

TL;DR: In this paper, the capsule capacitance profile was correlated with capsule weight with correlation coefficient exceeding 0.999 and the mean precision was in the range from 1 mg to 3 mg, depending on the size of the capsule and was significantly lower than the 5% weight tolerances usually used by the pharmaceutical industry.

Fast discrimination of chocolate varieties using near infrared spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this article, the use of noncontact near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technology employing a diffuse reflection fiber optic probe for discrimination of chocolate varieties is presented, where 120 samples of 8 typical varieties of chocolate are selected randomly, and the samples are scanned in diffuse reflectance mode by a cooled InGaAs array spectrometer (950-1700 nm).

NIR spectroscopy for monitoring of the critical manufacturing steps and quality attributes of paliperidone prolonged release tablets

TL;DR: In this article , a Partial Least Squares (PLS) method has been developed taking into account the domain between 1350 and 1550nm of the 1st Savitzky-Golay derivatised spectra, with a low root mean square error of cross-validation of 6.7, offering a real time overview of the homogenisation process.

Classification and regression trees

Leo Breiman
TL;DR: The methodology used to construct tree structured rules is the focus of a monograph as mentioned in this paper, covering the use of trees as a data analysis method, and in a more mathematical framework, proving some of their fundamental properties.

Nearest neighbor pattern classification

TL;DR: The nearest neighbor decision rule assigns to an unclassified sample point the classification of the nearest of a set of previously classified points, so it may be said that half the classification information in an infinite sample set is contained in the nearest neighbor.
